Anyone fitted Ohlins R&T forks and rear shock to thier XB yet? I've ridden a standard 748s compared to my Ohlins clad 748r and the differance is night and day. I can purchase forks and shock at a REALLY good price but am wondering about front brake fitment....John |

I believe that Ohlins makes a fork with either an adapter to support or with native support for the ZTL setup. |

I envy your luck.... (how much?) If its the fork (kit) designated for the XB, it should come with the special caliper mount. |

btw. And if that set doesnt include the proper lower attachment, if the price is low enough you could just order the lower part for the XB. |

That is truly amazing. I would risk it. I can't imagine the lower part costing more then $300 if you will even need it. Do "they" have anymore of them? |

I would be buying these from a friend at a BMW store at cost as a one time deal but I know HARD RACING sells them for a discounted price of $3090.00 plus shipping as opposed to $3808.00 retail....John |

I have a set on my XB and I love them. They're way better than the stockers. And yes, it does come with all the brackets to mount the stock caliper and the front fender. |

Hey there, My friends bike was the one used by Öhlins to configure and build suspension for Buell. The first edition was with a smaller bracket. But the second edition uses a radial mount leg, of course a bracket to make it fit. But it is much more stable! My friends opinion is that it is much smoother, and looks awesome |

Please please please Blake, can we at least separate xb topics in the kv? I for one like scanning for interesting new topics like this one. If I always have to search, how will I know what I am missing??? Respectfully, xbolt12 |

Cool. Question is, does anybody know experienced suspension tuners/racers using Ohlins on xb's? What I'm afraid of is that on the rear almost every race Buell is using Penske and most use modified stock forks. That might mean a lot of experimentation to get it right. I'm hoping that I'm wrong and it would be easy to find good baseline settings. Also it would be great to hear of some feedback on one brand vs the other on xb.... |

Xbolt12, It is imperative that you take advantage of the "New Messages" search option. It is the ONLY way to browse the BadWeB. |

Question is, does anybody know experienced suspension tuners/racers using Ohlins on xb's? Hals were using Ohlins forks last time I spoke to Terry. I'm not sure which shock they were using but I know that Ohlins do spec one for the XB. Buell Bonn in Germany used Ohlins Front& Rear, although the forks were different in that they used the SICOM carbon twin radial mount brakes. These pictures are of their 2003/4 bike, but as far as I know they still use them. They did very well in the German BEARS (British, European, American Racing Series) this year as well, winning their class I believe.

Holy moly - that is a sweeeeeet looking bike. Dang it Matt - now you made me want to turn my XB9R into a track bike rather than selling it to make $$ for a Uly. Decisions, decisions ... Henrik |

Don't be nervous about experimentation with the Ohlins forks. The spring Daytona race was the first time I used them on my XB. The forks felt so much better than my re-worked stockers that on my second lap of the weekend I was able to carry more corner speed than I ever had before. They are awesome forks. I haven't touched a setting ALL year! The only thing I did was add a little more fork oil to keep them from bottoming on the brakes at rough tracks. The also do not fork bind while trail braking like the stockers do. In case you are still worried, you'll be happy to know that they (Ohlins) give excellent service as well when you do have questions. |

Walt; thanks for chiming in. That's a good reference point. Although I doubt I'll ever get fast enough to truly justify an Ohlin's set-up, it's always nice to dream/plan. Henrik |

Thanks guys. Now my decision is getting really difficult. Today my buddy let me take his new 05 Ducati 999 up Palomar Mountain South Grade and down again at knee dragging speeds. It's a beautiful ride and very precise and stable, but I found I am spoiled by that "lump" of xb motor. The Duc pulls cleanly from 4k up, but just doesn't feel as fast until maybe 7-10k RPM. I'm not sure it isn't faster than the xb (my friend was behind me on my bike), but it just doesn't feel the same and on a tight road like above you are forced to chose between jerky acceleration if you drop a gear and having to shift back and forth, or not having the responsive power of the xb when you run a gear high on the Duc. The 999 brakes are unbelievable though and it makes me wonder if radial brembos are the way to go (outside of cost) on the xb if you are changing the forks anyway. So where I was really heading toward a 999s, I may just plunk down the cash for Ohlins and some engine work.... Now if someone would just finally dyno the TiForce exhaust, that might be my starting point for the new and improved 04 xb12r |

Of course on a more open road and on the track, I'm sure the 999 would wail on the xb... |
