I have a 2001 m2 and just traded some stuff for a 2001 x1 extended swingarm"for race use only".I`m going to be modifying it considerably-will run XB rear shock up behind the rear cylinder-At this point it`s all experimental-extra ebay frame-Tail section made of 1" by 3" chrome moly with oil inside-battery way at the rear,under cafe type seat.Having laced wheels built by Street Tracker people,made new glass tank that closely resembles a Vincent`s-to use a word out of my adolesence,which I am not entirely free from,so far it looks "bitchen" will post pics a 6 mo.s or a year or whenever I`m done.Also thinking about nickle plating frame,rest all black.Question-will x1 steel swingarm fit m2? Any help,suggestions other than "don`t do it" much appreciated.I cant afford a vincent and choppers,for wich many a buell has layed down it`s life are just plain nuts. | ||

Tom, I like your idea as I did something similar but somewhat crude for its time in the early seventies. See my profile for picture. A nickel plated frame, just polished looks better than chrome plating in my estimation. I love these kind of projects and glad to see its not another abusive destruction of a Buell for a chopper. X1 didn't have steel swingarms. Perhaps you're thinking of some other model? | ||

Thanks guys,your feedback is encouraging.one more problem-I know rear wheel travel is about 4 1/2"-I`d like to lower the tail section so that 1by3" tubing/oil tank sits astride the wheel at maximum travel,leaving only about an inch of space between the wheel and the seat pan-How low can I go without neutering myself,one thing I dislike about the streetfighter style is the tail up in the air look.Safety is of course prime consideration. I noticed that the French Buell with the under-the-seat pipes appears to have way less clearance-could my seat really be that low as those pipes? | ||

sounds like an "idea" that I had. please post some pics of progress. I just decided to save my money and buy a used hellcat in a few years. | ||

I love those Hellcats,gotta save the dough though-I`m an aging carpenter.This cafe mod all started when I discovered that the previous owner must have been rear ended-bottom rear shock,mount bolt pushes through the casing,cracked but no oil leak. That`s when I decided to run the shock XB style-well,once I decided to do that rather than have the cases split and repaired since it runs like a top-here`s where it gets a little complicated,but fun too,almost everything is in the way,the oil tank,the battery,bits and pieces of the frame;they all have to be relocated and for esthetic reasons conceiled too.But it can be done.I`ve been out of motorcycling for a good twenty years and I remember in the old days it was a lot easier to give a bike a totally different look,there was just more space for everything,I guess.The buell is a challenge,I guess that`s why they all seem to look more or less the same even with 5K worth of carbon fiber on them.One big thing is keeping the handling characteristics more or less the same-I would hate to loose that.I`m relatively new to computers too,camera is next and post some pics of construction.Bubye.tom. |
