Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on some stuff that has come to light. Seems that footpegs are snapping off rather easily on S models. This is the third time I'm hearing of it and second time seeing it. A female rider I know was going over some railroad tracks and stood up on the pegs as she went over the tracks as one would to ease impact. As she crossed the tracks her right peg cracked, broke and she went down. She was fine, bike had minor damage. She is a tiny thing of about 110 pounds, scary thought of the pegs breaking like that. heads up to all doing stand up wheelies and the such. |

My foot pegs snapped from a tip over. I used the passenger foot pegs to get me by until my LSL pegs from American Sport Bike arrived. |

Same thing for me. Car backed into my S and it fell gently in some dirt. No damage at all but the footpeg broke right off. Was able to get a replacement at a local dealer...the third one I called. Getting it back on can be tricky for the mechanically challenged, like me. I tied the spring in it's tensed position before I took the peg off. that made it fairly easy to put it back on. If I hadn't done that, I think I'd still be at it. |

well after hanging a 22 pound steel bus muffler under the engine, we did not want to spoil all that "mass centralization" with some FAT over-engineered footpegs, so we used some taiwanese cast aluminum units, at least they are cheep to replace. |

The Traction Pegs are solid billet and fairly cheap. I think they'd tear the frame before they broke off. Prolly not track-ready 'cuz the rubber is glued on. |

Question, how far off to the side are you placing your feet. I've stood on my pegs (290 lbs of me.) and have had no issues. I make certain that my feet are places over the whole peg rather than the ends. BTW: Full, is there some sarcasm in your post or are you pissed about something? |

Glad shes ok. I had mine bust off too. They are really thin. I got the Oberons. They work well and are strong. They won't snap and they don't cost much. |

Second peg I had break off due to the bike tipping over. Missed riding to day cause they didn't have it, and I had to order it. At least they are becoming Buell aware. Stretch 05 XB12S 03 FLHRCI |

I snapped one coming down too hard from a slow speed wheelie. I slowly dropped the bike & scratched the mirror & front brake lever. Scared the hell out of me. |

I had one snap when my bike was tipped over in the parking lot. However, I (195 lbs) stand on my pegs daily and have had no problem. I keep my feet as close to the pivots as possible though. |

I actually sent a letter to Buell after mine snapped suggesting they use a stronger foot peg. I know I would've paid a little extra for better pegs. |

This is getting interesting... I think I'd better speed up the installation of my new LSL pegs. |

There was a thread about this same thing a few months back. I myself had a driver pegs snapped on me. I come to a stop, lost my balance but was able to hold the bike up from falling on it's side. But I could not push it back up straight. So I gently and I mean very very gently put the bike down on it's side so i could get off of it and pick it back up. Next thing i hear after the bike was down on it's side for about 1 sec is "SNAP!". The driver peg snapped off. No way should it have broken so easily but it did. Been riding for 15 yrs and have even dropped bikes on their side and the pegs held out fine. My take on it is the metal is very porous, alot of air pockets which makes for a weak peg. Some will break and some won’t. Flip of a coin. So you big guys standing on your pegs, count your blessings you have not busted one yet and busted your azz. The threads on this subject always end the same. You have those that have experienced peg failure and believe under the circumstances it should not have broken. Then you have those that believe there is no issue and the pegs are stronger the Kryptonite because their pegs have never failed. There is one guy on here who was walking past his firebolt, hit the peg with his shin and the peg broke off. The peg could have been weaken by a previous fall but the rider said he has never dropped it. But even so, how many bikes have you had in the past where the pegs fail like this. I have not heard of many. Most of us can not prove anything about the pegs one way or another. That's why you will not get any type of conclusion from these threads on pegs. This is a conclusion. How much would better pegs cost me, and could I put them on and ride tomorrow? That's what this is about. No need to bust yer or screw up yer putt cause of a cheapo peg. Just gotta get better ones. Which are? To put it more mellow, does anyone know of a peg that can be used as a replacement for the current pegs, at a reasonable price? Are there any generic or jap pegs that'll work? I don't really care where they come from if they are good. BTW, I had some EMGO bar ends turned down to put into the Fly Racing Moto bars I run on the S. They basically saved the rest of the bike in the fall, even though the peg snapped. A better peg would have held, and saved the rest of it. Wider bars are good for something. Especially when they are double thick. Now, just need that R tail, and I can at least look at the Long without bursting into tears that I didn't wait for it. but then, who knew? Stretch 05 XB12S 03 FLHRCI ( Going fast ?) |

Oberon pegs fit the Buells. Al at American Sport Bike sells some LSL pegs that are good quality as well. The flaw is in the design. The peg is designed to only take weight from the top. The strength in the U shape supports everything fine. However if you apply pressure from any other angle, they seem to fail. I was backing out of my driveway and was too close to the Jetta bumper...barely bumped it and the peg snapped off. The pressure was from an angle that the peg was not designed to take pressure from. Notice the new Ulysses pegs? They look a bit beefier. I bet they're a bit stronger. I'm told they don't fit the other models. Too bad... |

Thanx. Looks like all the aftermarket pegs are like firebolt pegs, with no L shape to them. But that may be ok. What about the traction rider footpegs? Do they have the same problem with failures that anyone would know of? HD prolly has them. I could be riding tomorrow. |

Unfortunately you are correct, there are no aftermarket pegs that have the same drop that the S pegs do. The traction pegs are solid under that rubber - no problems with breaking at all. |

Does this seem to be just a problem with the S model? I was thinking about putting the S pegs on my R for the inch offset but after reading this thread I'm having second thoughts. If it is on just the S does the break seem to happen in the same area or because of the offset compaired to the R? |

Good question Scitz. I am currently running the S pegs on my R and love them! It would really suck to have to put higher pegs on...... |

the only three pegs i have broken have been on the left side, and all three times were unplanned "bike resting quietly on its side" type events. now have a few spares on hand. they are a cheep taiwanese cast part, apparently designed for sacrificial breakage. |

here's that thread w/the broken peg pics and another about standup-wheelie peg/rim issues. most recommend if you're gonna standup on the pegs then position your feet inboard. wanna spend bucks, get sato/woodcraft/etc rearsets. buell traction pegs don't seem prone to breaks. oberon pegs kinda small, get touring versions if you can find em. then there's those ebay billet guy 'race' pegs. sure don't want a peg to snap while standing up on a highway - wonder if buell's listening, did they get carried away with weight reduction or do these break by design? this is looking like an interesting product opportunity for some enterprising individual. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/111484.html http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/111237.html i'm kinda liking these kuryakyn switchblade pegs. "then there's those ebay billet guy 'race' pegs." I bought 4 billet pegs from this guy for cheap. The pegs fit and work perfectly. That guy's stuff is top notch. |

Since this thread is not about buying new pegs as stated by Stretchman can you guys put the info in the proper location in the knowledge vault? Anyway to do it at this point? |
