I currently live 2 miles from my work. I ride my MC to work every day, rain or shine. I have a good set of gloves, and nice insulated leather jacket with a liner, a balaclava, and even underarmor if the need exists. However, I do not have anything for below the waist comfort. I would like to continue riding in the cold weather until the fluffy white stuff prohibits it. Does anyone have a recommendation for cold weather riding pants, preferably pull-over. I am sure aerostitch makes some, and joe rocket probably makes some, and BMW I know makes some, but I don't buy anything without at least some recommendation. I bought some snowboarding pants that I can put on over my jeans. They are wind and waterproof and work very well. Also they were quite a bit cheaper than buying a bike specific product, and do just as good a job. I bought mine at Hibbett sporting goods. Just my .02. | ||

Joe Rocket alter ego jacket and pants both have armor and waterproof lines that are removable and have zip-off panels for the hot weather. The waterproof liners are great for colder weather. They kept me comfy at 47 degrees - the coldest I have ridden to date. | ||

I have to put in a pitch for the FirstGear HT II overpants. I got a pair 2 weeks ago, they work fantastic! It was 35 when I left home this morning. The legs were toasty warm all the way to work. They are really well built with a removable liner. Great pants for 162 bucks. I got them from www.newenough.com That place rocks. Great to work with. They didn't have them in stock yet (they are brand new model) so they had them drop shipped from the First Gear warehouse. I had them in 3 days! While we're on cold weather gear, I'd like recommendations/endorsements on really good cold weather gloves. I've got the Joe Rocket cold weather gloves and they work well at temps above 40 degrees. This morning it was around 27 degrees and I put on my regular leather JoeRocket gloves ANDTHEN put the cold weather ones on over those. After 15-20 minutes into my commute the fingers are numb/hurt from the knuckles to the tips. | ||

Only Electrics... Widder or Gerbing. Gerbing has a heated liner if you have a nice pair you really like and just want 'em 'lectrified. For best results, add heated grips ($35 for a basic kit) *and* heated gloves and ride all day. | ||

Okay, I just got a Fieldsheer Highland suit. It is reasonably well made. It appears to be a good low-cost Chinese alternative to an Aerostich Roadcrafter. At $189, it is definitely not a long term riding investment like the $700+ Roadcrafter, but if it lasts long enough for me to afford a Roadcrafter, it will have done its job. Overall quality is good. The suit seems to be well thought out. Pockets and flaps are all in the right places. I am 5'10" and 210 lbs with 44-inch suit coat and 36 x 32 pant size. The XL fits me perfectly if not just a little snug. It's snowing sideways so it will be awhile before I can road test it. The armor seems substantial and well-fitted right off the hanger. It has a zipper from the neck to the ankle that makes it easy to get in and out of. | ||

Okay, I have ridden with it and have been very happy with the suit. It does tend to get cold in the chest area, but that has been remedied with an extra layer. The first few rides, I was wearing a t-shirt and jeans underneath. I have now ridden in temps above 35 degrees and find that this is a good suit for commuting. | ||

Hey, Santa brought me a heated jacket liner and today is the first day I rode with it connected to the O'Lady "backup bike" and could check it out....Uly in for check up, waiting for throttle grip and assembly (?) I wish I knew about this 3 jackets and 6 years ago.... After my 54 mile commute @ <50 degrees I would definitely push for the heated gear versus the layers, especially for upper torso and arms....As I ventured through low lying canyons for a portion of my commute a quick turn on the controller and the temp comes right up. just wanted to post out here about the Alter Ego pants in HEAVY rains ... the seat of the pants is NOT too waterproof on their own .. I have been getting into work looking like I just wet myself... I have the Hard Drive jacket and that works perfectly in the wet and the cold |
