Whats the best way to lube the cable without it getting all over everything? Any preferred lube? |

I use teflon cable lube and I'm careful... It works well for the lubrication and doesn't add a lot of liquid. Also, if you're installing a NEW cable... Lube the CRAP out of it before you install. |

So how do I get it DOWN IN the cable? No it's not a new cable just don't want this one snapping n leaving me on the side of the road. |

Some lube containers come with a syringe type tip, so you just "inject" the stuff. If you don't have a syringe, you need to loosen the cable - so you'd probably do it when you're adjusting the clutch and cable anyway. With the cable so loose you can slide the sheath back and forth on the cable, you drip the lube onto the cable at the top while moving sheath. That'll help make the lube run down into the cable sheath. I usually keep pouring it in until I see lube dripping out the other end. Henrik |

I might add that if it has been a long time since the cable has been lubed, there is a good possibility that crud has gotten into the cable, most likely from the adjustment point mid-cable. If so, subsequent cable re-lubings from the clutch handle end may just flow lube down and wash the crud down to the lowest point in the cable run and into the primary case and transmission, especially if one uses the aerosol cable lubers with the attachment that fits around the free upper end of the clutch cable. I'm saying this because I was trying to ease up on the lever effort on my XB9R and wasn't having good results just lubing the cable. I finally had to unscrew the cable from the clutch housing and proceed to flush out the entire cable with the aerosol cable lube until the effluent came out clear. I shudder to think that I was trying to flush out all this gunk into the trans. So be forewarned. Let me add that my clutch action is now easy and butter smooth. YMMV. |

Good point Sparky. Since I usually do cable lube in conjunction with clutch adjustment, I usually have the cable detached at both ends. Didn't think about the flushing crud into the primary. Henrik |
