So glad to hear that Border Raid was fun and safe for everyone. Ya think age has anything to do with slow healing? Well, I feel 36 even if I'm 56, so age aint nothin' baby. I plan to race in McMinnymouseville this Sunday but may not make it Saturday. Who all made Border Raid this year anyway? I need a fulllllll report to satisfy my Canadian Lust. Hey Harv, my ST3 came with Michelins stock and they grab pretty good too. Was out doing sedate parking lot drills and local roads for an hour yesterday. Border Raid would have killed me for sure. I'd be waiting for the maid to wake me in a hotel room in Pinticton about now, wasted, paralized, unable to remember my home phone number. But I'd probably have a grin on my face. |

We had a truly amazing time with great friends. It was good to see new faces like Dave and his wife (can't remember her name), Mark on the S-1 and Marcus and Debra(He make a me raugh) Also good to see Paul and .....Oh God, I have the worst memory.......Paul's Wife!!!. Thanks to every one, We had a Ball!!! In The Rain Forest, Bob Sorry to here of Dave and his wife. |

I'm sorry which one was Dave? the guy on the S-3 or the Harley? I was one hurting unit going home, luckily Marcus let me ride the BMW. I think Marcus will be with us from now on, he really enjoyed y'all. My wife (Sue, Bob) really had a great time. She will be posting here at some point to say hello. And now for the part that some of you will be amused and possibly shocked by. After my torturous (is that how that is spelled?) ride home I thought long and hard about my bike needs. What I realized was that right now I need a comfortable and faired comutor bike and a play bike can come later. So I backed out of the deal on the FZ-1 and bought a 00 ST1100. Stop laughing. The rational is this is what I need for a everyday ride and after I take care of some other stuff I will be looking for a used Ulyses. I am sold on that bike! Hope everyone is fully funtional by now and it was so good to be back among friends. Y'all will be seeing a lot more of me, I'll be the guy at the back on the touring bike. Paul PS Galen, you were a big hit with Sue and Debra! |

Border Raiders, and those that wish they where. What an awesome weekend! I really liked the extra day made possible by meeting in Penticton on the Friday. It just makes for that much more fun when you get two great rides in on the same weekend. Great to see new faces this year too. Hope you all become regular SPLASH & Border Raid participants. I don’t think you’ll find a better group to share your spirited riding styles with anywhere! I left this weekend with a better appreciation for speed wobbles, thanks in part to Galen. Can’t wait for the sequel. Cheers buddy. As you have already heard, Dave and Charlene had a little spill on Green Mountain Road approaching bail off bridge while returning home. They are both OK, thankfully, but a little shaken. Their Dyna suffered the worst with a punctured fuel tank, twisted forks, broken windscreen and abrasions abound. They where able to ride her home and will make the top of the winter project list. Just a review of the couples that attended Border Raid: The infamous Bob and Deb sporting naked (did I say that) Triumph Speed Triples Don and Loraine on a Buell S3 and BMW 650 Shawn and Cathy aboard the Buell S3T Dave and Charlene with the H-D Dyna Paul and Debra riding the loaner Yamaha FZ1, ands soon to be ST1100 (Congratulations Paul) Markus and wife Sue with their BMW Chuck and Theresa brought Triumphs Mike and Kimberly both on Triumphs too Is that right? Please forgive me if I left anyone out. Post any corrections! Thank you all for making this the best Border Raid to date! See you all at the Seattle Motorcycle Show in December. Cheers FunJimmy |

Hey Jimmy, Although I think Marcus is very cute, I-Sue-am married to Paul! I can see where the girly girls could get confused. Deb and I had the best time while you guys were out during the day and the parties at night were great. Thanks for making us feel like part of the group. I don't know what happens to Paul when he is around you guys--I have never seen him wear a goofy hat before. I want copies of those pictures Teresa! Take care Sue |

A couple of matters....firstly, had a great time up north. Nice to see everyone. Thanks Mike and Kimberlie for letting me ride along (and hearing me vent!). Great roads, great rides, great people. So, just got back from a Triumph club rally in Baker City Oregon. Interesting times. But there are some incredible roads out there and most of them virtually empty. First day was 357 miles from home to Baker via Maupin, Shaniko, Fossil, then Hwy 7. It was a cooker. Second day with "organized" rides of which there were about six mapped out routes of varying lengths so you could choose. I went out towards Hell's Canyon (what a fun road) then on some twisty and cold forest svc road into Joseph and back to Baker. That day a guy on an Adventurer broke a throttle cable, limped it back on high idle where the group scrounged up a spare SprintST throttle cable and made it work. In fact, I think it went faster. A guy on a RocketIII got a flat rear tire(oh, that hissing noise, no big deal) so had to get a Les Schwab truck to come out and plug it. Then, some guy on a Daytona (stories diverge here) either blew an oil cooler or got a rock in the oil filter. Third day I ride with a very quick group on some very twisty back roads. Eventually, dodging thunder cells, we get to hwy 395 towards Ukiah which is a freakin' scream of high speed curves. Unfortunately, we noticed the guy behind me on an older 595 Daytona never caught up to us so we go back to find him crashed on the side of the road with some kindly bow hunters helping him. A sweeping left hander he apparently misjudged, hit the outside gravel shoulder and slid. He wasn't hurt but the bikes coolant hose got sliced. So after loading the bike into the hunters' Toyota truck, they took it to Ukiah where the group got a piece of hose and some clamps and got it running (oh yeah, after having to push start it). Hail and pouring rain from Ukiah to LaGrande was a thrill. A leaking oil cover on that Daytona was JB Welded overnight and the guy rode it back to K-Falls. Yesterday was 357 miles back, so about 1200 miles over the weekend. Anyway, if we ever start thinking of other places to have annual rides, that part of Oregon has some great riding. Cheers everyone. Galen I was just going through the bike cleaning up after the Border Raid weekend and what do I find in the tail section but a CD of the Latter Day Saints. How cool is that? Six awesome songs performed by a great friend and motorcycle rider. Thanks for the peek into what I’m sure was an exciting and memorable past. Perhaps with permission from the copy write holder, we could feature a song or two on the next SPLASH 2006 DVD. Cheers FunJimmy (Message edited by funjimmy on September 14, 2005) |

OK, here's the first installment of BordeRaid '05 So Betty just about came apart up in Canadia. First I lost one of two nuts that hold the front header on the the cylinder head. oppsie. Bought a wrench and 10 nuts in Omak and was back! Next morning just after we left Pentictin for our first real day of riding she started back firing like crazy ( thats what happens when I get an exhaust leak right where the nut came off) so I pulled off, waved everyone to keep going, and started to put another new nut on. But Nooo, now I had a broken exhaust stud! I discover this just as the last rider in our group went by.... Usually not a problem as I can catch our slower riders in a jiffy. So I tightened the one remaining nut to try to hold the freaking pipe on, packed back up and took off. Sorta. Now shes running on one cylinder, wont accelerate, and Im starting to hear the coyotes howl as I realize I dont really have much of a clue where I am, and so I stop again and look every thing over, check the wires, look for loose , nothing. So I figure Im in limp mode and start to follow the trail of smoking tire and boot rubber left on the road by the rest of the crew. And then she starts to come back to life, a little at a time. I could get to a higher speed ( 50, 60, 80 ) before it would start to miss, and then, presto, all was back as it should be! I didnt run much over 120, and it didnt take too long to reel em in. Now Betty has a bit of a tradition of having something go hay wire on BordeRaid, but she is a Buell and most of my pals are used to such nonsense. And not long after my slow start ( it took me a little while to get my confidence back after the broken bits turned up ) I started to wick it up a bit into one of my best days riding yet! I went left! I went right! And many angles in between. I remember being air born. FunJimmy and I had a great romp on some perfect tarmac at near supersonic speeds which shall always be cherished in my dark little heart. We both later said we had felt like we were in the Isle of Man. The truth is that huge parts of what happens on any given ride are not retained in my memory in other than vague generalities of Good Times. These were indeed Good Times. Even off the bikes. But that was later. On the way back into Pentictin I discovered that I was out of fuell about 80 miles too early. Im used to getting about 200 miles before the light comes on, but this was just 120. Guess I use more gas with the exhaust leak? Or was it the kilowakers? Had to putz around to get some Canadian money and ended up behind everyone. Again. Through the use of advanced navigational skills I had not realized I had possessed, I drove into Pentictin just in time to meet up with Don and Lo and begin a night of debauchery that would not be equaled. Till the next night, at least. From Get Off the Roof, Now!, to security in my room, swimming, soaking, more security, the amazing wind off the lake, unloading bikes from Oregon.... the night went on and on and in like a strange twist of fate or puff of smoke we all ended up in Bob and Debbies room. Deb was in rare form telling Harvs friend the new Buell guy how she was gona spank him tomorrow. She was gona pull down his pants and make him do the Antler Dance. She was gona run him up the flag pole and make him salute. She was gona make him cry mammy. She mentioned his weenie. She wasnt making a lot of sense by then and somehow Bob was able to subdued her and we all ran away to safety. Until the next morning. Some people thought yesterday was crazy. Now there are even more of us. About 150,000 h.p. revving up and Im down on my knees tightening every thing my one wrench will fit one last time before pulling a wheelie as I leave the parking lot and in my first Hooligan Act of the day scare hell out of an old guy and his dog who thought I wouldnt get the front wheel down and the bike turned before I made them meat. Ha. This time out I remind myself to always get fuell when we stop, and in what seems like just minuets we are on a small country road, twisty as wet spaghetti. As wide open and sweeping as yesterdays ride had been, this was old school road building. Tight and curling through farm country, then climbing up into wooded serpent trails carved tight to the sides of the cliffs. This is where I made my Error of the Weekend. Coming out of some trees I start to drop over into a left and then either the turn tightens abruptly, or Im simply going too fast. Oppsie. So I lean waaay the heck over as Im checking for a run off. A nice open field by the side of the road would be nice. Nicer than the cliff face Im heading for anyway. No joy there, gotta ride it. So Im so far over my left foot is scrubbed off the peg and Im kinda dirt trackin it now. But Im headed off the cement into the dirt. All of my alarms are going off, HAL is running probable impact scenarios, I'm reviewing my X-rays, repair estimates on the bike are coming in, and suddenly all the Newtonian trajectories converge to get me vertical just as I go MX. I very carefully dont do anything, and as there was no lip between the dirt and the beautiful, beautiful road I eased over just as the edge dropped off into a evil little brooke. It was so scary that I was scared. I slowed down to about 30 and started breathing. Why did I always try to go so fast? There was nobody even around. I wasnt racing any one. I thought about my friends who were damaged or killed this year, and the exploded view of the yellow bike and the ambulance with its lights off we had seen yesterday...and then I thought about some stuff that I cant remember, and saw a squirrel, and a hawk. And mabey an owl. Then the road started getting good. Really good. Really too good to pass up. You could see all the way through the turns and use the whole road, the on coming lane too, and just fly. Just fly and get negative Gs over the rippling back of the diving road and I knew this is why Ive always tried to go so fast, why Ive always climbed the highest rocks, why Ive always had the bestest friends, why Ive always gotten in trouble... Thats where the fun is. (Message edited by sparropie on September 15, 2005) |

Galen, That really is a great story and I actually did laugh out loud when you described Deb taunting Mark. He took it like a champ. You have a talent for writing both on the Badweb and when I listened to the Latter Day Saints I realized lyrically as well. That CD is in my car and I have listened to it several times. Nice bass riffs! I miss everyone and can't wait for a reason to hang out again soon. The bike show seems a long way off. Take Care, Harv |

Yea. Twas a great read, Galen! More! More! I missed out on the Later Day Saints thing. Jimmy gave me the write-up but I haven't heard the music yet. Anacortes Oyster Run next weekend! Anyone going? Probably the last gasp of the season. Gotta start putting my cash into the re-build rather than insurance for all the riding I'm getting in. Not many rides this year but every one was highly memorable. |

Two strikes on me, Harve. Buggered back from sleeping on it wrong and my brother's coming to town for the evening and I haven't seen him for a couple of years. Drove the bus to Whistler today. Must have seen a hundred bikes. There's still some good segments of road they haven't buggered up yet. At 2:30 pm the road was friggin' empty! I'm thinking about blowing off the Oyster Run and doing a Duffy Lake rip on Sunday, maybe. If my chiropractor can get me sorted by then. Or doing it mid-week next week if the weather holds. |

Sporty, I had planned on doing the oyster run, I have a room and everything reserved. But then I was informed my Grandmother is coming into town on Friday. So, now I am not sure what to do, blow Grandma off (she happens to live in Baker City) and then make a ride over to her house? or stay here and visit and do the oyster run another year? I have not been on a real ride all year yet, with the S1 issues and all. So I really really wanna do the oyster run. Oh yeah, and to anyone interested, I think I am back in the mode of selling the blast again, let me know if anyone is interested. |

Harve!!! My brother bailed on ME! the bugger. Now I've got nothing to do Thursday night! You're on! I'll call Jim in the daytime. I'm off work about 2. Any time after that. Ping me your cell number. S1.....visit Granny Friday and Saturday. Come up Sunday for a beer in Anacortes, check out the bikes, then ride home. Its easy. We'll set up a meet time. If you come up Saturday to a hotel, you should come meet us at the border and do a rip up Mt. Baker before going to Anacortes. Its all goooddd!! |

OK, oyster run it is. My cell phone number is (503) 330-6516 I have a room with double beds one of the nights, I had planned on going Saturday, Sunday and come home on Monday when ever. I only have a room reserved for Sunday night, at the Marina Inn. I was planning on finding something in like Bellingham or something for the other night? Some of the guys I was gonna go with bailed out already, one of them being Anton, and the plan was to stay with someone they know for one of the nights. So, I am not sure exactly sure of my plan on Saturday night. |

Alas poor Betty is having her 'monthly'. I think maby Stu was right when he said I must ride to fast for the Buell. Header has so many cracks I don't know if even Bob can fix it. Two exhaust studds broken. Betty is a keeper, but I may be slipping to the DarkSide soon. sooner (not), Galen |
