Where would be the best place to mount one and where should I put - it before or after the oil pump and wouldn't a thermostat be usefull so it would only kick on at a certain temp? GT - JBOTDS! EZ  | ||

Oi coolers are usually in the return line to the tank. Most companies that sell oil coolers also sell termostat bypass valves. James | ||

On a dry sump system like all Harleys and British bikes oil coolers are always put in oil return line to the tank (or in the case of the Blast...to the frame) - merci - that is what I wanted to know. GT - JBOTDS! EZ | ||

But where to physically mount cooler? And how much would it increase oil capacity? And do they come with instructions on how to install? | ||

Just checked jcwhitney. They have an oil coole that is 1 1/2x2 3/4x11 for $44.99, a sandwich type oil cooler adapter for the 1993-1998 toyota corolla 1.8 for $22.99. The only other thigs would be hoses fittings and mounting hardware. Would'nt the sandwich type make install easier?It does'nt say how thick it is so would clearance be an issue seeing how high stock filter location is? | ||

Just checked auto zone and they have an import oil cooler kit that has mounting hardware,hoses and after install is supposed to accept a ph8a oil filter. it is made by B&M and is $120. | ||

Mount it by horn going along frame with hose clamps - they make more compact ones for motorcycles - a bit more in price though - I'm looking in to it and will let you know what I find. GT - JBOTDS! EZ | ||

Ez..Does the 5624 - Engine Breather Oil Collector from American Sport Bike does the same thing as an oil cooler or does this do something else. | ||

Check out summit racing. They sell the perma-cool products. They have a small cooler kit for $60.99 and the sandwich adapter with multiple size fittings is $25.95. They also have remote oil thermostats for $39.88 and mounting kits are about $5 or $6. | ||

James, unless you can find a really good deal the XB oil cooler is about $120. That is without hoses or any of the hardware. I've just been looking at it from a tight budget aspect. How much do you think the oil cooler will help? John | ||

Honestly, I have no clue how much it will help, but I'm hoping that it will keep the cyl head temps down to a point that the motor performance is relatively constant over 8 laps in 100+ degree weather. I'm intrested in the XB oil cooler for two reasons: I might be able to get one for free or near free, and I know that it'scompatible with the oil pump because the XB pump is the same as the Blasts. For my 36,000 mile street bike, I'm not interested in one. I think that they are not the prettiest thing, and the motor has done well without one to date, so why add a $60-$100 gizmo! Heck, that's a rear tire or 15 gas fill ups, or lodging for the next SLO ride. I would re-consider my position if I my bike had a high performance engine, like high compression, of a turbo, of a 600 kit. James | ||

That is a great price!! I would only consider it for same reasons you give for street bike. But for race bike I would think that any real drop in head temp would help. I was looking on web and fuond site that claims 40 degree decrease when moving and 20 at idle. VERY EXPENSIVE WWW.motorcycle-innovations.com | ||

Did I read $150 without thermostat & hoses? Is this cooler durable or will it be toast the first time the bike is dropped. (many are really just a simple radiator and fairly delicate). On the street the Blast doesnt need one. It runs cooler than any HD I've owned. | ||

Why not use one off an XB? Anybody tried this yet? They turn up on ebay from time to time, and it occurred to me that the lines *might* just screw right in, in place of that stainless steel tube that loops around by the oil pressure switch. | ||

I have an XB oil cooler on my '01 blast. I made up a sheet metal 2-piece bracket and used the stock Buell '03 lines I got with the cooler. I had to source the correct oil pump fittings through the local dealer and put a 45 degree adaptor on the oil pressure sender. It works great, and adds a bit of capacity, although I doubt it drains during an oil change. I also made up a black foam plug to fit into the scoop for cooler weather. I'm heading to Mexico on vacation so I'll post a picture when I get back. | ||

Cool! Been trying to snag one off e-bay for awhile, but they always went too high. The race budget has been drastically cut and since the Blast doesnt really need it, I've dropped the search... for now. |
