...specifically, a close up of an S2 or S3 tail, with the taillight lens off. I need to see how the taillight assembly mounts and fits into the tail of the bike. I'm working on an LED board and want to make sure it is going to fit and I do not have the whole bike, just the taillight assembly. I'm thinking the black plastic piece and the lens may sandwich the tail section, but not sure. The owner of the light is gone on a loooong ride and will not be back for a few days. Can anyone help a brother out? Thanks! -Joe |

I don't have any pictures at the moment, but maybe I can help you out by explaining how the taillight mounts to the tail section. First of all, the black plastic piece (backing plate) mounts to an internal portion of the tailsection (which also contains the license plate bracket). After the backing plate is mounted with the two studs that are on the back of the backing plate, then the gasket and lens go on. The lens really only rests on an external portion of the tail section (the flat areas between the taillight and 'vents'), so the backing plate and lens do not really sandwich the tail section. Hope this helps, 1313 |

hmmm, that helps a bit... I'm concerned that the LED board is going to interfere with the mounting of the backing plate. perhaps someone has an exploded parts diagram from a manual? |

Hey Joe, (hmm that's a great song...) Anyway, it should be the same as the one you built for my M2? |

unless I'm clueless, the S2 and S3 have a larger, rectangular, curved taillight. |

My bad, I was thinking of the S1... P.S. I still get lots of compliments on my tail light. Thanks Joe! |

Cool! I've been thinking about this mod for my S2 for some time now. The size and shape of that big taillight lens really lends itself to an LED application, IMHO. It looks like you could fill the center, flatter section with running/brake diodes and put some separate ones in the curved edge areas for turn signals. The part numbers for the lens and mounting plate are the same for all the S2s and S3s, so I think one fitment would work in all year models. HBJ |

awesome! thanks! I think it's safe to say that a board that replaced the entire bulb socket and reflector would fit nicely. btw, nice turn signals... the first time I looked at the back end of one of those I though "hmmmm, those vents would make nice turn signals." |

Drheathenscum - your welcome. As for the signals here is a link I posted on them a while ago. http://eazys.us/buell/RearSignals.html Pics of your taillight mod would be cool if you care to share when finished. I thought about doin something along that line. Thanks... |

Another question. I like the extra exposure of running lights. Some of my other bikes front and rear blinkers are on when the light is on for more visibility...How do you wire up the buell to do this? does anyone know? REX |

The LED board sounds like a nice mod.And would also like to see the turn sig's as a full time running-lamp/blinker. |
