it seems like we have less traffic on here since the knowledge vault rule inforcement i dont even know what we can and cant post anymore its more of a search function board than a message board who likes the knowledge vault police and who dont chime in because there is power in numbers i dont know maybe its just me but i see things here going downhill |

it seems to me, that most members first check the XBboard for current topics and events. if you prefer research or history, the "knowledge vault" may be the way to go. i see nothing wrong with technical and maintenance issues being first presented on the XBboard, then, if appropriate, let blake move them to the Knowledge Vault for posterity. i don't think most members will jump back and forth from one board to another to see what's going on. my 2 cents. yes, there's strength i numbers. |

... what's the big deal? If it's a technical question, go to the KV. Seems like a pretty simple request to me. (And no...I'm not one of the *gasp* "Custodians".) It's run a bit wild in the last few months and it could use a little discipline. It's not going to be perfect...just need a little forethought. DAve (Message edited by dave on September 18, 2005) |

I really like Buelltroll's idea. A knowledge vault for XBs within the XB forum would be a God send (or a Blake send). But until such a time.. I'm gonna try to follow the rules. If I have some thing to add to a current thread I will, be it technical or not wherever I find them. If I start a new thread I will make every effort to post it in the right place. I'm just as confused as the next guy but it'll sort itself out as we get used to it. Me thinks I'll be using the nifty "new messages" search feature finally |

I can see the need for an XB section of the KV. Good point. DAve |

The biggest problem if Blake does that, he'll have 100 sections with one post each. All the poster or the checker of the post has to do now, or after it gets all moved is if you are a poster write in the topic, what the question is. If you are a checker, if you see what you are looking for in the topic line. Sounds complicated but it's snot |

I can never find what I'm looking for in the KV. It seems that everytime I try looking for something there I ALWAYS get results for tube framed buells. It's frustrating, besides this is the XB board isn't it? Why can't all XB topics be here instead of being spread out all over the site? |

Exactly. Can the KV be separated into 3 sections: Tubers, XB, and Thumpers? |

I've tried posting questions in the KV...nada after two weeks. I copied the thread to the XBoard and BANG!!...ten answers in less than an hour. |

Yeah. No offense to Blake as I love this website and am on it daily, but the Knowledge Vault sucks. I never find any information I want in there, always end up using the fairly decent search function and the info will always be archived from the XB board. I think that 70% of the members of this website are XB riders and most browse this topic, not the KV. You can't get questions answered in the KV. Maybe we can braintstorm up some other way to change this apparent disarrangement of the site. |

"How 'bout a general topic along the lines of "Help! My bike is broken"? The KV seems a little less traveled than some of the other areas, hence help questions being posted in the XB and QB to illicit a quicker response." (I posted this to the "Suggestions..." back in July. No one reads that topic either. |

I dont even go to the KV unless I am looking for an answer to a question. I would never see if anyone posted a question or concern they had over there. If we cant exchange questions and answers about XBs here, whats the point in an XB board. Unless they can catagorize the KV into diffiernt models types, it is pretty useless to me (Other than the search feature) because Im not going there and wading through pages of post on Blast and tube frames just to try to find XB stuff. just my $.02 |

I agree with Saintly. The Knowledge Vault is still a mystery to me. Just when I think I have it figured out it confuses me. |

Hi there should be three boards 1 for xb's 1 for x 1, and 1 for s1 1 for cyclones. To go back in forth to 1 thing or another takes all nite. Having a xb picture board would be good too. All the best. |

Honesty prevails... I never check the KV. So if I know how to help someone, how will I see it? I'm for a KV for each section... But alas, this is Blakedom and I'm in his house... |

I was always wanting a seperate KV for XB's but it's looking like the KV will become the XB KV due to sheer numbers of posts re XB's. There are some interesting discussions in the KV if anyone would take the time to look. The way I see it, start on the search page and search for posts in the last day on the XBoard, then do the same for KV or whatever else you're interested in. If people could put "XB" in the subject headings of new threads in the KV (e.g. "XB front wheel removal" ) then all we'd have to do to search a particular XB-related topic is include "XB" in the search words. Simple. |

Charlieboy makes a real good point! If an XB rider has a problem and needs help but his post is catagorized in the sub-topics of the KV, then anyone who would otherwise be able to help him would first have to be psychic, because they would not know it exists. For example: "hmm... I feel very knowlegeable about pushrod adjustment today. Let me go to the engine mechanical section of the KV and see if there is anyone who needs pushrod adjusting advice" That's just unrealistic! No one is going to search all the sub topics of the KV looking for a question that they may know the answer to. futhermore, Dagwood has adressed a VERY real problem: I've tried posting questions in the KV...nada after two weeks. I copied the thread to the XBoard and BANG!!...ten answers in less than an hour. No one wants to wait days or weeks for an answer or a suggestion to their XB problem, They want help as soon as they can get it. That way we can get back up & riding as fast as possible. Nobody likes downtime. |

true. Some of my old postings from months ago are still in the KV without a reply. I think a good method would be to post the new thread in either XB or oldschool section. Then once the problem has been addressed or solved it should be stored in the knowledge Vault. |

As a sponsor (speaking for Kevin) I am not pleased with the lack of apparent traffic posted on the knowledge board. I've made a couple of postings that I thought would bring a fairly large response and got very little. For the paying sponsors, the Badweb is a really great place to find customers as well as to exchange information and share our love for the bikes. I fear that potential customers who are new to the board may not find their way to the knowledge board. I'm well aware that you can search for the information and find it, but in advertising its all about getting the material in front of a potential customer effortlessly. This isn't meant to be a severe criticism, but I'm just voicing a concern. I liked the former controlled chaos - it was more interesting. |

Last and hopefully not least, why not have the XB board just be about current topics/questions/issues. Have a week time limit and then move the original post and all of its followups into the archive, where hopefully, they'll be properly cataloged and categorized. I've used the Knowledge Vault and like the others, I can't find what I'm looking for. That's why there are a lot of redundant new posts on issues already covered and resolved. |

I have been frustrated with KV too. When I look for specifics for XBs I get frustrated trying to weed out Tuber related data. |

In Blakes defense, once people start posting in the right places, the traffic will follow. For finding things, the "google" approach is probably the most effective. Don't worry so much about where things might be, just craft good searches and browse that, and keep tweaking the search until you find what you were looking for. It is not perfect, but usually gets the results you need. |

I read XB board daily and liked the questions ask there. Ive had answers to questions I didnt know to ask.Let the questions stay on XB board and move them to KV after week. just my 2 cents worth. |

While it's a great idea to have questions stay on the XB board and then moved to the KV, it's impossible. Blake does a great job maintaining the site and keeping things going, as do the rest of the moderators. They're not making a profit off of the site, they're doing it on the side. So how much MORE time of theirs do we want to take by making them review each topic posted after it's been up for one week to analyze where it has to go and where to put it? If we demand that, Blake may just tell us where to put it I think putting stuff in the KV is a good idea - we just have to get used to using it. As a thought for a future upgrade, make it so we can search for new topics in a few specific forums...so I can search for new stuff within the last 2 days in the XBoard, Quick Board, and the KV at the same time - without picking up the other boards like Old School. That way I'm not getting all their stuff - just some of the KV stuff which as we take over and get more stuff in there will become more relevant. |
