Well I thought my problem was fixed, but perhaps I jumped the gun. The problems I had on Sunday ( see here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/145847.html?1126710629 ) were not all caused by the broken ground stud that I found. Although I fixed the clock/display/trip odom resetting problem, The check eng lite and popping persists. I swapped my race ecm out and re-installed my original stock ecm to see if the problem was ecm related. Apparently not, it still does it! I see there is a post below about getting the codes by jumping 2 pins on a 4pin connector under the seat. I have no such connector under the seat of my 9R. Is that connector location given for "S" models? Could my connector be behind my fairing near my ecm? Help would be most appreciated here as I am at wits end! If I have one more breakdown with this godforsaken Buell I am going to hang a damn FOR SALE sign on it and walk away. This has been the single most troublesome bike I've ever owned. |

YOUR TROUBLES WILL BE AT EASE SOON. YOUR CONNECTOR IS THE GREY CONNECTOR UNDER THE FAIRING BY THE ECM. EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUT, AND YOU WILL BE HAPPY. YOU HAVE TO ADMIT, IF YOU WERENT HAVING THIS PROBLEM, YOUR BUELL WOULD NOT BE THE MOST TROUBLESOME BIKE, BUT THE MOST FUN BIKE YOU HAVE EVER OWNED. LET US KNOW HOW IT GOES. |

Thanks CP. I got a code 25, that explains the popping. I did a resistance check on my coils: 3.6 ohms on the front coil and 22 ohms on the rear. Looks like the rear coil crapped out on me! By the way: YOU HAVE TO ADMIT, IF... YOUR BUELL WOULD NOT BE THE MOST TROUBLESOME BIKE" if you read my profile & see the problems I've had, you'll understand why this bike HAS INDEED been the most troublesome bike Ive ever had. It's the fact that when it is up & running it's a rush to ride, that has kept me from selling it thus far. But It's no longer an acceptable tradeoff (extended down time in exchange for brief fun rides) and I've realized that the longer I keep it, the more time I'll be spending repairing it. |

YEA, I DIDNT READ YOUR PROFILE UNTIL AFTER I POSTED. MAYBE SOMEONE FELL ASLEEP ON THE ASSEMBLY LINE? FOR EVERY 1 BAD BUELL, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF GOOD ONES. I HAVE AN 04 12S THAT I BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF EVERY DAY AND I HAVNT HAD A SINGLE PROBLEM WITH IT. 22OHMS SURE IS HIGH FOR A FREAKIN COIL. THE UPSIDE IS ITS NOT THAT HARD TO REPLACE. JUST CHECK YOUR PLUG WIRES AND EVERYTHING IN THAT AREA. MAKE SURE ITS ALL ROUTED CORRECTLY. YOU SHOULD BE UP AND RUNNING IN NO TIME, AND HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE THE END OF YOUR WORRIES. IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO TO HELP, JUST LET ME KNOW. I ALSO HAVE A 2003 BLUE 9R, AND I HAVE HAD TO PAY A LITTLE MORE ATTENTION TO IT. ALL THE BUGS ARE WORKED OUT AND I LOVE IT NOW. |

UPDATE: New coil, light hasn't come on in 2 days, no popping in 2 days as well. Fingers crossed..... with 2 weeks till Maryland trip, I'm hoping all gremlins are evicted. Anyone ever hear of a gremlin bell? I'm going to hang one under my XB this week. |

A friend has to give it to you... Or so I hear. They hang well from the front line on the oil cooler. It'll just settle into the recess in between the nut and the oil line. |

Saintly, my feeling on fixing things. Take the bike out. Do a 300+ mile run on it in a day. Check over everything. If alls good then you should be good for your trip. |
