Just after 3K the vibration changes. It seems to get quicker or faster. I dont know if higher frequency is the correct way to explain it or not. Doesnt feel like its loosing power but i'm not sure. If it is its not much. I checked the front wheel by holding the brake and rocking back and forth. Sounds like it might be a bit loose. Slight knocking sound. Any info on how to tighten it or if it might be another issue? Some search results have indicated possible bad front isolater or primary chain tension. Thought I'd start with the steering head and go from there. '05 CityX by the way.
Thanks

Mark, what you're feeling in the front end - rocking with the front brake on - may be your steering head bearings. Adjust per the service manual. On the XBs that has cleared up some clunking/stability issues.

As for the isolators, there is currently a thread going about just that ...

Did you check your primary chain tension yet? How many miles on the bike? When did you last check primary chain tension?

Just over 2Kmi. Havent checked primary chain yet. Was last checked @ 500mi. Thats next on the list after the steering head.
Thanks Henrik

Other things to consider - not directly vibration related but still;

- are your tires worn
- have you checked your tire pressure

Make sure you follow the service manual ('cause you bought one of those ... right ; )) for checking the primary chain. Check in several places and adjust per the tightest spot.

Let's know what you find.

Tires and pressure are good. Yes I have the service manual. One of my first purchases. I'm leaning towards going to my dealer so they can give it the once over considering my wrenching skills and time. They are quite Buell friendly. I will post when I get results either way.
Thanks again Henrik

Ok. So, bike went to dealer today and they informed me that the vibration I'm feeling is "Normal", but the front motor mount was loose. They tightened it and ordered a new one because they updated them. First off, I dont believe that this vibration is normal because it wasn't there before and if the motor mount was loose then shouldn't that tell them that something is off? Anyway, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt because of past history. I should be picking it up tonite or tomorrow. I will however have to bring it back when the part comes in (@ 6 days). Another 120mi ride @ $3.50/gal. I must say though that the service was speedy and it didnt take long to get the Appt. and all under warranty as well (so far). It would be nice if they had this type of part in stock considering they have "updated" them. Maybe I'm being too demanding. Updates to follow.

Madsx, my front isolator started going at 1K... finally realized it was completely shot just before 3K. It was obvious when comparing to another front isolator on the showroom floor when the tech and I looked. Felt like the front end was loose cause bumps were very harsh up front and vibes got really annoying.

Not sure if it relates to what your feeling but I have my eye on the new isolator too. I was kinda shocked it blew out so soon on an '05 Lightning.

Well I picked her up this evening and the vibe is still there. I looked at the front isolator when I got home and it looks like it started to break up because its very uneven @ the edge. Looks like its missing material. Now is it unsafe to ride like this? Rode it about 60mi home. They didn't say I couldn't ride it and I didn't think to ask.

This thread has some pics of what mine looked like right before it was replaced under warranty...

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/131886.html

I rode the sh*t out of it for probably 300mi or so just before it went in. Nice and smooth once the new isolator was installed although I feel like those same vibes are on their way back thats why I'm watching it closely.

My question is: Is this a recall part? If not, Why not? Seems quite a few people have had issues with this isolator crumbling like stale bread after only a few thousand mi. Seeing its an intregal part with safety consequences, shouldn't there be a recall? my .02

Waiting........Waiting..........

Jeopardy theme anyone?

For my "updated"(should be recalled if you ask me)front isolator.

Did you call another dealer and get a second opinion on "delivery time"? How bad is the isolator, can you post a picture?

No, I haven't. I just assumed that the next closest dealer wouldn't be any better from what I've heard here and elsewhere. They are also even farther than the 120mi round trip to my current dealer. Although a 5 min call can't hurt. The isolator it self seems to be intact but looks like the edge/rim has started to break away. Its not flush all the way around and appears to be missing material. It's nowhere near as bad as Typeone posted above.I'll try to get a photo.

In my experience, excessive (more then 3 or 4 days) delays for parts are a problem with a particular dealer, not with Buell.

As for distance, any dealer with the part in stock is only as far from you as your mail box and a one day wait for your fed-ex truck.

I have two "local" Buell dealers, one did good work, but had long delays for service appointments and would lie about ordering parts. The other has been great, and usually has what I want in stock.

Guess which I bought a brand new spanking XB9SX from at full retail?

Anyway, especially with the recent purge, I would bet 2/3rds of Buell dealers are pretty good. Remember, people typically come on the internet to whine, nobody is going to post about how they went to order a part and had it two days later... it's non news.

In my experience (I had to get a boatload of parts for my old Cyclone), if it is not at the dealer in two or three days, the dealer did not order it.

Ok, heres an update. Dealer called Tue afternoon and said part is in. I just need to make an appt. She said that they were pretty slow this week, so almost anytime was ok. Got to them at opening this morning(9am) and I was leaving at 9:30. All set. They even cleaned my speedo sensor b/c it hasen't been working when bike is cold and hasen't been started in a few days. If I ride for a bit and shut off and restart it works fine. She said if it keeps happening to call and they will replace. And the vibration you ask? Its all but gone. There is some vibes above 3K but its minor and it doesn't change immediately like before. Its much smoother. I'm very pleased. The new "updated" isolator is very beefy compared to the old. There is a lip that protrudes out from the mounting bracket. I'll try to get a pic up. Overall besides the tech saying that it was "normal",I couldn't be happier with the service at Manchester HD. People are very nice and eager to help and the service was super speedy. Thanks to all who replied for your help. I still think this should be a recall item replaced on all bikes weather they need it or not.

Could it be that I got a bad mount from scratch???
I've got an '04 Buell XB12S, with only 24 miles on it (New, leftover!) my buddy has an '04 XB12R. I'm a bit perplexed at why mine vibrates like it's trying to shake itself apart at lower RPM's while the R seems infinitely smoother?
Both idle at just over 1000 RPM. Mine thumps like you wouldn't believe below 3K RPM, but is smooth as silk above 3K?
There's none of the telltale rattling, or gnashing sound that usually accompanies a loose primary.
The bike is brand new! I just clicked over 200 miles today. I should take it to the dealer, but that's 150 miles away!
I might try my local dealer, but these Harley shops are such pricks! One refused to zero a TPS unless I bought the Race ECM from them & had them install it!
And, no, the Race ECM is NOT installed. The only Mods are an open box & a K & N filter. Besides, it was like this since new!

Primary chain is likely loose.
