Alright this may sound really stupid to some but i really want to know how long an xb can hold 130mph(without permanently damaging the engine). Thanks, i'm just curious. |

Yes, that is a stupid question. |

First off, It would be tough for an XB9 to get to 130 MPH and I sure would NOT want to be on one that is going that fast! My XB9S is a little 'flighty' at 100 MPH. Tim |

at 130 my 12R is at about 6300rpm and I don't like to sustain anything over 4000rpm for any length of time. I just figure its bad practice. |

First off, It would be tough for an XB9 to get to 130 MPH 9's have been known to hit 135 indicated rather easily, and many have been rather steady at that speed as well. My 9 and my 12 were only "flighty" above 100 from loose jackets or high crosswinds. The only thing you would have to worry about is over heating, at which point, the ECM would shut down the motor. So as long as the motor didn't over heat, and you weren't hitting the revlimiter the whole time, probably til you ran out of gas, which would be fairly quick... |

Wycked, You're a better (at least BOLDER) man than me. But I'm getting to that age where I'm starting to get a bit wussy - I don't even like doing 130 on my 929RR. Tim |

I really don't think Mr.Buell had that in mind when he designed the XB's , so that being said probably not very long .. I don't think your question is stupid but I would wonder why that would be a concern ? Unless you are planning some high speed hooligan activity on an open highway somewhere ,and if you are, an XB is not a good choice . |

My XB12R is pretty damn solid over 100mph. I've kept it at 117 for about 20 seconds...and the only thing that stopped me from going faster (besides my fat arse) was the parachute that my jacket had become. So as far as stability, these bikes rock. At that speed I'm sure your engine is getting plenty of air cooling it down, so depending on how close to redline you are, gas is your only limitation. |

You just haven't ridden I-8 between Gila Bend and Yuma enough...sometimes you either run as close to the ton mark as you can, or you get run over by some SUV who is... |

I've only been on I-8 a short distance west of Casa Grande... Note to self: Never go for a ride with crazy AZ motorcyclists like Wyckedflesh, Dagwood, etc. Just kiddin! Tim |

Yes, that is a stupid question. The only stupid question is one left unasked. There are however stupid answers... |

Thanks guys. My 9r is very stable at 130. I am small and weigh 145 so i can tuck in fairly decent behind the little front fairing there is. For those wondering why i asked this odd question. I was just curious. I just wanted the knowledge(if you can call that knowledge). thanks again. |

Chasing down Busa's with drag gearing, and bein a Hooligan. A few times for 15 miles or so at 110-130 everything was fine except the oil cooler lines rubbed because the 90degree fitting loosened and started a small leak, none on the tire but mad a mess of the oil filter. Not for the faint of heart. When we finished the rice boys were impressed with the little bike. |

My xb9r is very stable at top speed. I topped it at more than one occasion for maybe a few minutes, no more. The fan sometimes kicked in (could hear it when I slowed down), but nothing serious. Like wycked said, I think the only concern you might have is heat and the ecm will start what is called spark skipping if it overheats. |

hi, you can get a steering damper to calm things down a little , lsl do one . don't fancy going 130 on a buell without a screen . |

I remember a run a few months back where a number of Buells spent the better part of about two tanks of gas at an AVERAGE of 110 mph as part of a three day event. None of them had any issues at all with that except my 99S3. My bike's issues were preventable with the proper upgrades. The stock/near stock XBs ate it up. Wycked was there... |

I rode an XB9R through a full tank of gas through Utah pretty much maintaining a constant 110 MPH. The other guy riding a Firebolt in the group really enjoyed the pace I set as the rest of the bikes in our group were all H-D's and were all stuck at 5 over the limit. 1313 |

I was there though... Ski and I ran 125-130 that day (9R/S and 12R respectively) for at least three minutes trying to catch Bart and the rest of the pack (Jerry Haughton, Al from American Sport Bike, Reindog, Unibear, CareyJ, Warp2 and a few others (sorry I can't remember everyones handles... I think I have all the faces)) when J's ECM fried. Yeah, the pack had a GPS confirmed moving average of ~110 over the first day. Some were waiting (not long at all) for the guy with the GPS and others were close behind him. Buells, one FJR 1300 and one Mille. Note to ALL... Do NOT underestimate a good rider on an FJR riding two up through VERY technical twisties... Mr. Haughton is a good rider. Rachel and I probably averaged 95 on our 561 mile trip to Vegas last weekend... That's two up for those of you that weren't counting . I hate straight road. It's best to just get it over with. We got about 44MPG too. Look for helicopters first though... The REAL amazing story from the trip though... Rachel did 561 miles on the back of a 12R with nary a whimper. And Mikel... Thank you again for driving that chase truck . |

If you're getting flighty in triple digits, try loosening up your death grip on the bars before investing in a steering damper. |

I have a 12r and the storz steering damper makes a huge difference. I took it off to see the difference after having it on for 3 months. Night and day. It feels a hell of a lot more surefooted with the damper on. I occasionally hit those speeds with the guys I ride with after work at 2.30 a.m. on the highway. I've never had a problem with wind either because it's sporting a zero grav s/t windscreen which cuts through like a knife. Vibration is dampened through the rubber traction pegs. Nice to see others enjoying the adrenaline as well. Be safe!!!!! |
