It was actually 3 of us that did it.....It was all good except the last 6 hours...I did a lot of standing towards the end...On the last gas stop about 100 miles from home we thought about calling a buddy with a trailer...None of us wanted to get back on the bikes, but we sucked it up and finished the ride....Total was 3600 miles in 8 days... MY LONGEST TRIP WAS THROUGH THE NORTH GA MTS, TO BLAIRSVILLE, TO YOUNG HARRIS, TO SOMEWHERE IN NORTH CAROLINA, TO TENNESEE, TO DEALS GAP AND BACK HOME. WE RODE ABOUT 700 MILES IN 12 HOURS. THERE WERE A FEW NEWBIES WITH US, SO WE HAD TO DO ALOT OF STOPPING TO WAIT FOR THEM TO CATCH UP. IT WAS SUCH A GREAT RIDE. |

Man, I need to get out and ride. My longest ride in a single day was from Orlando, FL to Raleigh, NC. It was about 600 miles, I did it in ~10 hours on my Cyclone. 2nd longest day was on my Firebolt, heading from Fuquay-Varina, NC to Daytona Beach, FL. It was about 550 miles and took some 12 hours due to a little roadside repair on an M2 that was along for the ride. Two days later we rode back, making the ride some ~1200 miles in 3 days. |

How would you rate your XB*R as a long-distance bike? If you have something to compare it to in the sport-touring category (Yamaha FJR, Honda ST, Triump Sprint), let me hear comparisons. I am looking to buy a bike that I can take wherever I want, and I want one that will be my only bike for the next 10 years or so, so it has to be able to do anything within reason. Thanks. Josh D. |

Sounds like the bike you really want is the Uly but to answer your question: I rate it very highly. Ive got 22,000 miles now on my '04 XB12R. I ride it everywhere. Farthest in one day is Long Beach CA to Santa Cruz CA via old highway 1. Thats 470 miles, and I went out to dinner and wasnt all worn out when I got there. I've made the same trip on a Ninja 600, Honda XR650L, and a Kawasaki GPZ1100. Im planning to get some risers for my handlebars and maybe put the footpegs down a bit lower, but other than that I have no complaints. Get some good saddle and tank bags and a bulk package of foam earplugs. |
