It just occurred to me that I own three V-twins; all with different angles: 2003 Buell XB9R -> 45 degree 2000 Aprilia Mille -> 60 degree 1992 Ducati 900SS -> 90 degree Can anybody beat that? Motorcycles only, please. |

Almost a tie... 2003 Buell XB9S --------> 45 degree transverse 2004 Ducati ST4S-A -----> 90 degree transverse 2003 MotoGuzzi Lemans - > 90 degree longitudinal Tim |

Yes. I've seen a lot of heated arguments about this on other boards. This is the way I learned it 30 years ago - it's the orientation of the crank-shaft. Tim |

Racerx1, I think you'll win! All you need is a BMW boxer and you would be unbeatable.. I think there were several 180-degree transverse motors built but I don't remember the manufacturer. Tim |

If somebody were to own an Excelsior-Henderson Super-X, they could add a 50 deg transverse twin to the mix also. |

A few thoughts... It could be argued that a 0-degree twin (example: verticle twin) and a 180-degree twin (BMW boxer) are not V-twins. But if you subscribe to that then 90-degree twins like the Duc, Guzzi, TL, RC51, etc. are L-twins and not V-twins. Of course then this would make your American V-8 engines L-8 engines instead. Has a manufacturer ever built a twin that was greater than 90 degress but less than 180? Tim |

Probably not. Over 90 degrees you have a very innefficient use of space, and don't get the primary balance you get with a boxer. |

The final production version was an 80 degree V with the heads tilted inwards (I think it was like 10 or 14 degrees). Although I think the prototypes where indeed 90 degrees. |

I believe the triple is one of Jim Feuling's creations. Here's a link:http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/roadtests/w3/ Oh, and add one more weird transverse V-twin to the mix: Honda Hawk GT 650-------52 degrees |

I think the metric cruisers come in many different configs - except 45 degrees. I think this restriction was to keep HD from suing - although I don't know how S&S can market an engine that is almost an exact copy??? Tim |

A Suzuki ad on the back page of the local free MC magazine says the small Boulevard cruisers have 45 degree singles! |
