I have been so busy with all the hurricane stuff that I have forgotten to mention that I sold my BMW and bought a new CityX. Got a pretty good deal on the Beemer so maybe I will have enough to buy a Uly later to replace the GS....could I be that lucky??? Anyhow, I haven't had much time (thank you Katrina) to ride the CityX, but so far it has been the most fun ride I have owned. Dag, it only took, what, five years for me to finally become a Bueller? Hahaha..... |

Welcome SuperDave!! I too was a Bmeer owner, and have enjoyed my Buell more than any bike I have owned. I even bought a H-D Road Glide, (waiting for the Buell S-3T replacement). Enjoy the CityX! Lets get all those affected by this terrible tragedy cared for! |

I'm still riding a K100 Beemer whilst waiting for my kitted XB12r. Talk about chalk and cheese for riding styles. |

I did the same thing. Sold my BMW R1150 RS to buy a 2002 Buell M2. The Buell is not as refined but is the most fun I can remember having on a motorcycle. Now I'm thinking of taking a hard look at a Uly. |

I'm in the same boat, a guy is coming today to pick up my GS. |

Mike748 - What made you decide to sell the GS? I really liked my 05 GS, but started having ABS problems and BMWNA was not being very helpful. In fact, they actually denied that there was a problem. I was told that the ABS might not work properly under certain circumstances and that I should just avoid those circumstances. WHAT?!?! They did, however, offer me a straight up trade for another bike, or a non ABS version GS because they wanted to keep me as a customer. Yeah, right... I have to admit that I am having a little trouble adjusting to the CityX brakes. Man, this little bike seems to want to get up on the front wheel every time I grab some brake LOL. |

As a former beemer rider myself, welcome. I'm enjoying the heck out of my S3T and plan to be riding it for a long time to come. If anything ever happens to it, it's going to get replaced by another...S3T. |

The GS is a great bike. I was just never riding it. I bought the bike to take the wife out on a few rides. Also I'm building a house and I could not justify having money tied up in a bike I was not riding. I decided to sell the GS, get a Buell and put the extra $ into the new house. I like smaller, lightweight bikes. I had more fun on my old XB9 so I decided to go back to a Buell. Plus I'm too young to own a BMW |

Sorry for thread robbing but are the R1150RS any good? Old man wants one and has sent me on a hunt with the cheque book but I got no idea what I'm looking at. Almost all of them have service history and a few more miles than a usual year old bike but I think that is the purpose of the design. |

Starter, A lot of BMW riders think the R1150RS is the nicest all around motorcyle BMW makes. The 04 and later models had twin plug heads which dramatically increased fuel economy and driveability. It has never been a big seller in US so prices are lower and availability should be good. A BMW twin is just getting broken in at 30,000 miles so don't be too concerned about mileage. I would look for a higher mileage one as it usually indicates the owner took good care of his ride. |

I've had two. A 95 R1100RS and a 03 R1150RS. Both were great bikes. I sold the 95 while going through a divorce. I always missed it so bought the 03 after going through a couple of other brands. I bought a 01 Buell M2 as a second bike. I found I was riding it a lot more than the BMW. While not as fast as the BMW, the Buell was just plain fun to ride. I sold the Buell when I was getting money together to buy a house. Fast forward a year. I still had the BMW but was not riding it. I decided I wanted another M2. I sold the BMW and bought a 02 M2 with just over a thousand miles on it. Just as much fun as I remember my first M2 being. I never had much use for the Buell XBs but the new Uly sure has me thinking I need to see one in person. To get back to your original question. I'm one of those that thought the RS is one of BMWs best bikes. Lighter and less bulky than the RT. Less fairing but enough to be effective. A great bike to eat up a lot of miles quickly and get good milage doing it. |

Yet another former BMW owner that went "Buell." I sold a '95 R100M and bought a '99 S3T... and haven't looked back. |

I am fortunate to keep my R1100RT and add a 2005 CityX. Love them both, but things seem to be shaking out that the Beemer is for overnight trips, the Buell for all else (although I rode the Buell to the BMW National Rally, just to be a pain). And my RT is finally getting broken in at 57,000 miles. |

I currently have a K1200GT along with my XB12R. Two different bikes for two different purposes for me. Sorting solo rides on the Buell, commuting and 2-up rides on the BMW. Oh, and cold rides on the BMW (heated seat, grips and more wind coverage). |

For those have following my Buell's broken isolator mount at 35 k miles thread... by that mileage my '92 BMW R100GS had blown an alternator, ignition black box, and a transmission. Then the warranty expired, and in the 25k miles since I've had to replace or rebuild the transmission two more times, replace the starter, diode board, and I'm currently trying to fix some stripped clylinder studs, etc.. It's easy to see why I gave up on BMW and bought a Buell! That said, the '84 R65LS I bought new has now covered around 100k miles, half that pulling a sidecar. Other than replacing a flywheel all it's needed was normal maintainance. The '83 R80ST I bought last year has been dead reliable and appears to have needed no major repairs in it's 76 k miles. The early oilheads had a lot of teething problems, though I've heard the R1150s are now pretty reliable. I'd wait a couple years before buying an R1200 though! |
