Am a first time user of this website-(just registered yesterday) and am wondering if anyone out there has installed the Drummer exhaust on an 05 12s. What happens to the interactive exhaust hardware, i.e. cables and other items? Is the mod worth the money? I've heard the exhaust on a 9r and am very pleased with the sound. I am a previous Honda, Harley and Kawasaki owner-have been out of motorcycling for about 10 years and bought the Buell in February of 05. I've had discussions with Kevin at KDFab. He has been most helpful but would like to hear from some of his recent customers as well. I love my Lightning and hope to ride it a good long while. Thanks |

Regular DRUMMER loud is going to need the race ECM or a TFI. Also have to buy Air Filter. The Exhaust valve will be disconnected and no longer used. Ask Kevin about the "ECONO DRUMMER" It is a good place to start and can always be made into the regular DRUMMER should you so desire. See my posting in the Knowledge Vault under Exhaust then subtitled "ECONO DRUMMER" NUTS |

I recently installed a regular Drummer and Race ECM on my '05 12S and love it! Sound is perfect, more authority than noise, and power is nuts. The change in power curve is exactly what I wanted, pulls real hard from ~2500 and up. I already had the TFI, K&N, no snorkel and stock inner airbox kickin around but once I put all these pieces together my bike felt like a different machine. Kevin has been EXTREMELY helpful in dialing her in. I'm so addicted to the torque around ~3000RPM, I swear it sounds like a helicopter, each pulse of the motor is felt/heard. Just awesome. I was all smiles on my run yesterday jammin' at around ~4200RPM through a long set of sweepers, roll-on/roll-off it really does sound like thunder! And the large, stainless 'fatlet' is superBadass lookin, way better than in internet pictures. I couldn't afford it right outta the gates when i got my 12S but I'm really happy I saved up. Well worth the dough. |

I have a Drummer on my 04 12R. I haven't put the race ecm in yet so I just took out the cable that moves the valve and left the electronics plugged in. That way I don't get a check engine light. I am going to install a race ecm, tfi, and a filter this winter though. |

Ironweed, I've been running a regular Drummer for over 18 months on an XB12S with K&N and stock ecm. I really don't believe the race ecm or TFI makes *huge* gains over a stock XB12 (note XB12, not XB9) ecm, but I may get shot down in flames for such a statement. You can leave the cable in place if you don't want to remove it yet, just zip-tie a small plastic bag over the muffler end of the cable to keep the elements out and fasten it with another zip-tie to some place under there to keep it secure. Disconnect the cable from the actuator under the airbox cover so the actuator can move freely without tangling up in the removed cable. The stock ecm has no trouble adjusting to the Drummer and the K&N gives the whole lot another kick in the pants. Money well worth spending IMO. |
