I have a Supertrapp pipe on my 97 S1 and it seems like the pipe don't wanna' stay there. The mounting brackets broke (at the aft of the pipe) and had them re welded. After I rode home from work the other night, the aft section where it mounts from a dog bone to the engine case had sheared the large washer that attaches it. Any other safety measures I could take to make sure it don't fall off?? When the bracket on the pipe broke I was just outside of my work and heard something dragging the ground. I thought it was my side stand but as I looked underneath my muffler was dragging the ground. I just want to be safe about this!!!! |

Hi Nemster, Do you have the old style Supertrapp? I had the same thing happening on my bike. I just hung a new one tonight after trying a stock muffler for a while (made my X1 stumble and cough anytime I got on it hard, plus it was too quiet) The new style mounts are much better. The front mounting bracket is similar to the race header shoe and the rear is a pair of T-clamps with a bracket that they go through. It needs the updated Y-bracket Buell came out with aand the Z-bracket at the rear. Should run about 110.00 for the factory bits and whatever you can find a muffler for. Two V&H, a recall S.T. and a gutted stock muffler later I'm hoping this is the last time I have to screw around with the exhaust. |

Not sure what the old style is but from what you are saying it seems like it is. There is no front mount on my muffler right now. It just bolts from the header and the aft mount underneath the motor. Maybe I should look for a clamp to mount at the front. Hell I dunno' but I am more than worried that it will come loose again so I am holding off riding until I get something more up front!!! |

There are pictures buried in the knowledge vault of the old style/ recalled supertrapp. If it is the recall version you might be able to shame Supertrapp into replacing it. I just went and bought one because I'd welded everything together trying to keep it from coming apart. |

I fabbed a front bracket tonight at work so I think it's fine now. It's amazing how good aircraft parts work on motorcycles!!! |
