Johnboy

Wouldn't want to do it to you again. Harv is out of town until late Thursday night. We will probably meet at his house Friday at around 10:00AM and head out soon after. We'll seen you in Penticton on Friday.

Enjoy your ride.

I am not gonna make it. Tried going to work today on half meds and came home again. I will call to cancel my room about noon today. Let me know if somebody needs one and I'll give them the word.
Have fun.

Yes, still have room. Even more room since I won't have company. I'll be riding along with Mike and Kim on Friday.

I'm good with you for the Saturday and Sunday if you're OK with that, Eric. Alternatively, if you wanted to double up with Harve's buddy to fill the bed Friday as well, I'm sure I could flop somewhere. Galen, if you're on the floor, do you want me to pack a thremo-rest mattress? (S2s having wonderful cargo capacity, as well as being the best looking of the breed.)
Shame not to be seeing Mrs. Greeneric again this trip. But Kim is fit to ride! So that's a good thing. Can't wait to see you all.

Yes I am fit to ride and looking forward to it I must say! There will be no squirrel hunting this trip either, so I will be declaring this a rodent free zone, sounds good, eh?

Hi Ya'all... Linda and I won't be making it to border raid this year as some friends had planned a ride on the Natches Trace and Blue Ridge parkways this month. We're trailering the bikes over to Nashville and the girls will fly in to meet us next week... Sorry, we'll miss you all (sounds like it's gonna be a great raid this year!) We'll be back next year with stories of the "Red States Tour". MG

Border Raiders, and those that wish they where.

What an awesome weekend! I really liked the extra day made possible by meeting in Penticton on the Friday. It just makes for that much more fun when you get two great rides in on the same weekend.

Great to see new faces this year too. Hope you all become regular SPLASH & Border Raid participants. I don’t think you’ll find a better group to share your spirited riding styles with anywhere!

I left this weekend with a better appreciation for speed wobbles, thanks in part to Galen. Can’t wait for the sequel. Cheers buddy.

As you have already heard, Dave and Charlene had a little spill on Green Mountain Road approaching bail off bridge while returning home. They are both OK, thankfully, but a little shaken. Their Dyna suffered the worst with a punctured fuel tank, twisted forks, broken windscreen and abrasions abound. They where able to ride her home and will make the top of the winter project list.

Just a review of the couples that attended Border Raid:

The infamous Bob and Deb sporting naked (did I say that) Triumph Speed Triples
Don and Loraine on a Buell S3 and BMW 650
Shawn and Cathy aboard the Buell S3T
Dave and Charlene with the H-D Dyna
Paul and Debra riding the loaner Yamaha FZ1, ands soon to be ST1100 (Congratulations Paul)
Markus and wife Sue with their BMW
Chuck and Theresa brought Triumphs
Mike and Kimberly both on Triumphs too

Is that right? Please forgive me if I left anyone out.

Post any corrections!

Thank you all for making this the best Border Raid to date!

See you all at the Seattle Motorcycle Show in December.

Cheers

What a great weekend! Still reeling from those awesome roads. Guess everyone is now filled in on the mishaps and happenings... I recall someone saying we didn't have any get-offs. But the ride wasn't over yet! Gotta watch those knock on wood situations. I am so glad that Dave & Sharlene were able to get home after their spill. And bubblegum to plug the gastank is a great trick, who would've thought it would work?!?
Loni, thanks for leaving the note I did get it. I was waving at you from our window but guess it was hard to see waaaay up there.
Jimmy, you almost got it right with the couples list, except I think Marcus and Paul have swapped wives! Also, they didn't ride, just their hubbies.
Really great meeting the new faces and hanging with the regular crowd.
Miss everyone already, but we're getting excited for our upcoming Disneyland trip. Finally told Eva this morning Woo Hoo! She's excited.
Don had some more problems with his S3 to deal with, something like the header bolt is broken/cracked. I'm not sure at this point, he's still sleeping off his work shift.
Take care everyone!

Ride on,

Lo

Repeted from an earlier broadcast, just for Ferris...
OK, here's the first installment of BordeRaid '05 So Betty just about came apart up in Canadia. First I lost one of two nuts that hold the front header on the the cylinder head. oppsie. Bought a wrench and 10 nuts in Omak and was back! Next morning just after we left Pentictin for our first real day of riding she started back firing like crazy ( thats what happens when I get an exhaust leak right where the nut came off) so I pulled off, waved everyone to keep going, and started to put another new nut on. But Nooo, now I had a broken exhaust stud! I discover this just as the last rider in our group went by.... Usually not a problem as I can catch our slower riders in a jiffy. So I tightened the one remaining nut to try to hold the freaking pipe on, packed back up and took off. Sorta. Now shes running on one cylinder, wont accelerate, and Im starting to hear the coyotes howl as I realize I dont really have much of a clue where I am, and so I stop again and look every thing over, check the wires, look for loose ••••, nothing. So I figure Im in limp mode and start to follow the trail of smoking tire and boot rubber left on the road by the rest of the crew. And then she starts to come back to life, a little at a time. I could get to a higher speed ( 50, 60, 80 ) before it would start to miss, and then, presto, all was back as it should be! I didnt run much over 120, and it didnt take too long to reel em in.
Now Betty has a bit of a tradition of having something go hay wire on BordeRaid, but she is a Buell and most of my pals are used to such nonsense. And not long after my slow start ( it took me a little while to get my confidence back after the broken bits turned up ) I started to wick it up a bit into one of my best days riding yet! I went left! I went right! And many angles in between. I remember being air born. FunJimmy and I had a great romp on some perfect tarmac at near supersonic speeds which shall always be cherished in my dark little heart. We both later said we had felt like we were in the Isle of Man. The truth is that huge parts of what happens on any given ride are not retained in my memory in other than vague generalities of Good Times. These were indeed Good Times. Even off the bikes. But that was later. On the way back into Pentictin I discovered that I was out of fuell about 80 miles too early. Im used to getting about 200 miles before the light comes on, but this was just 120. Guess I use more gas with the exhaust leak? Or was it the kilowakers? Had to putz around to get some Canadian money and ended up behind everyone. Again. Through the use of advanced navigational skills I had not realized I had possessed, I drove into Pentictin just in time to meet up with Don and Lo and begin a night of debauchery that would not be equaled. Till the next night, at least. From Get Off the Roof, Now!, to security in my room, swimming, soaking, more security, the amazing wind off the lake, unloading bikes from Oregon.... the night went on and on and in like a strange twist of fate or puff of smoke we all ended up in Bob and Debbies room. Deb was in rare form telling Harvs friend the new Buell guy how she was gona spank him tomorrow. She was gona pull down his pants and make him do the Antler Dance. She was gona run him up the flag pole and make him salute. She was gona make him cry mammy. She mentioned his weenie. She wasnt making a lot of sense by then and somehow Bob was able to subdued her and we all ran away to safety.
Until the next morning. Some people thought yesterday was crazy. Now there are even more of us. About 150,000 h.p. revving up and Im down on my knees tightening every thing my one wrench will fit one last time before pulling a wheelie as I leave the parking lot and in my first Hooligan Act of the day scare hell out of an old guy and his dog who thought I wouldnt get the front wheel down and the bike turned before I made them meat. Ha.
This time out I remind myself to always get fuell when we stop, and in what seems like just minuets we are on a small country road, twisty as wet spaghetti. As wide open and sweeping as yesterdays ride had been, this was old school road building. Tight and curling through farm country, then climbing up into wooded serpent trails carved tight to the sides of the cliffs. This is where I made my Error of the Weekend. Coming out of some trees I start to drop over into a left and then either the turn tightens abruptly, or Im simply going too fast. Oppsie. So I lean waaay the heck over as Im checking for a run off. A nice open field by the side of the road would be nice. Nicer than the cliff face Im heading for anyway. No joy there, gotta ride it. So Im so far over my left foot is scrubbed off the peg and Im kinda dirt trackin it now. But Im headed off the cement into the dirt. All of my alarms are going off, HAL is running probable impact scenarios, I'm reviewing my X-rays, repair estimates on the bike are coming in, and suddenly all the Newtonian trajectories converge to get me vertical just as I go MX. I very carefully dont do anything, and as there was no lip between the dirt and the beautiful, beautiful road I eased over just as the edge dropped off into a evil little brooke.
It was so ••••••• scary that I was ••••••• scared. I slowed down to about 30 and started breathing. Why did I always try to go so fast? There was nobody even around. I wasnt racing any one. I thought about my friends who were damaged or killed this year, and the exploded view of the yellow bike and the ambulance with its lights off we had seen yesterday...and then I thought about some stuff that I cant remember, and saw a squirrel, and a hawk. And mabey an owl. Then the road started getting good. Really good. Really too good to pass up. You could see all the way through the turns and use the whole road, the on coming lane too, and just fly. Just fly and get negative Gs over the rippling back of the diving road and I knew this is why Ive always tried to go so fast, why Ive always climbed the highest rocks, why Ive always had the bestest friends, why Ive always gotten in trouble... Thats where the fun is.

S'pie, nice writing, gonzo even, wish i'd been there. : )

S'eric, there are three bikes in my garage right now: Suzuki SV650, Yamaha FJR1300, and Buell XB12X.

'cept the Buell doesn't belong to me...
