max - don't know where that particular badweb thread is; however, here's a pic of what you might be looking for, sf-bikeparts.de, they were not badweb sponsors & i recall they were politely reminded to comply w/board rules re advertising..

Those ARE AWESOME. I don't know if I could get used to the KPH though. I guess that I would think that I'm going faster. |

Speaking of speedo graphics, is it easy to change? Someone once told me (probably a dealer) that it was impossible to change it without destroying something. I have an 03 9R and the only thing I don't like about it is the stupid funky type on the speedo numbers. I'd prefer the simple numbers the 12 has, or something like above but toned down a little and in MPH. Has anyone changed theirs? |

We can get these parts from S-F Bikeparts if anyone wants them. Please note however that the speedos are marked in Kilometres per hour and not mph, which may be a bit of a bind |

The XB's dash is NOT LED's. I have taken mine apart and found regular tiny bulbs, not LED's. |

Any enterprising badwebbers with access to screenprinting want to have a go at this idea? I'm smelling a decent market for this, especially if its in MPH. I'm planning to pull mine apart this weekend, make a template and have an artist friend freehand a cool design on mine. I'll post back if I have any major problems or end up breaking something ... and if it works, I'll put up some pictures! |

I just want one that looks classic... Like the old Lotus 49B dash. That would be excellent. |

I'd like one if it were easier to read. For some reason, that silver/red combo of the stock one doesn't thrill me much. I'd be happy with a white/black one. |

Interesting... That's a render from the West Brothers. Did you get that from West-Racing.com or Racing-Legends.com?

Mono, I was thinking the same thing...maybe get it airbrushed or something. It would look sweet if done up with the smileys like the Buell t-shirts used to be - remember those? |

I would be interested in one that had plain black numbers on (flat)white instead of the odd font on my '03 9r. white or red on (flat) black would be a second choice. Boring I know, but I kinda like the Joe Friday approach, Just the facts ma'am. Anyone considering this remember that you need two templates due to different red-lines for the 9 and the 12. Other than that once the original scans have been done it should be easy. Wasn't there someone on the list with the handle signguy? They would probably be able to knock these out really quickly. |

Some light background graphics (meaning, not overly intrusive) like lightning bolts would be cool. |

The XB's dash is NOT LED's. I have taken mine apart and found regular tiny bulbs, not LED's. Would you be kind enough to document this with a picture and bulb numbers? I'm fairly certain the indicator lights are LED (engine, neutral, etc.). The Service Manual says "Replace the instrument module if the unit is not working properly or if a lamp is inoperative" (Page 7-47). If the backlighting is in fact regular bulbs, call me a happy guy, 'cause lights behind my tach are out. The SM for my Sporty says the indicator bulbs are not replaceable, gotta do the whole unit, which is inaccurate. They are #74 bulbs and take all of 5 minutes to replace. |

You can easily print out a new dash design with the use of a scanner, Photoshop, a laser printer and a transparency. Scan the original speedo plate, put into photoshop, make your graphics changes, put a transparency (thickest you can get your hands on for your laser printer, an Inkjet will work for areas that don't hit over 100F) set the print out for "transfer"(so it prints the toplayer IE:the numbers first then the underlaying layers) and hit PRINT. Cut to fit, I would spray the back with a clear fixative and attatch a second sheet of transparancy just to make a sandwich if its not too thick. Then put your assembly back together. The most difficult part is making certain the gauge cluster doesn't change size between the scanning the editing and the printing, and making certain all the speed marks stay the same. I did one for some Auto meter gauges a few years ago in which I made the speed marks on one transparancy, and the design on another transparancy, with a third sandwiched in between so the speed marks looked like they were floating above the design. I do not have pics of the finished product anymore, however I do plan on doing this for myself with my own gauge pod, but since I live where it hits over 100F I need to have it done with a color laser printer due to the heat issues. The heat can melt the ink from an inkjet printer easier then a laser printer. So I will take it to Kinko's or Alphagraphics and have them do the actual printing. |

Has anyone pulled their speedo apart yet? How do the tach/speedo needles come off and go back on? Also, if anyone has the photoshop file template they could share that would be awesome. |
