"As far as the Uly the missing part is the "Sport"." So if I read you right, you are looking for an XB12Rs with taller windshield, bags and a trunk? Zat about it? |

Rare and I are on exactly the same page. I don't hate Buell and I don't hate the Uly, it's just not the bike I want to ride and I really want to ride a Buell everyday for the rest of my years on the road. Blake, Think of what I want as an XB12SsT. Larger faring similar in shape to the XB-R, adjustable windscreen, accessory outlets, heated grips, something akin to the Uly seat, Uly Bags. JT |

The Lighting Long seems to be the Cyclone of today. IMHO. The XB12Ss may be the best Buell ever. (like the Cyclone, bigger tank & more room than a Lightning ) Are the Frames the same on the XB12Ss as the Xb12X? Do the Suspension/Fork on the XB12Ss & XB12X interchange?? Will the Ulysses tail bolt on a Lighting Long? Aftermarket bits & Fairing on either might suit depending on desired gross weight. |

Do the Suspension/Fork on the XB12Ss & XB12X interchange?? Will the Ulysses tail bolt on a Lighting Long? These questions were asked during the chat with Erik Buell last week and the answers were "no". According to the engineers, the Uly tail will have insufficient clearance for the rear wheel at the limit of suspension travel if you try to put a Uly tail on an XB12Ss or if you try to put a XB12Ss rear shock on a Uly. |

Hey guys this site gives you a good perspective of the new Uly versus the old S3. Give it a look. www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93290&page=4&pp=15 |

I'm curious, Impulse, where is the Ulysses lacking in "sport?" "As far as the Uly the missing part is the "Sport". " |

the Uly tail will have insufficient clearance for the rear wheel at the limit of suspension travel if you try to put a Uly tail on an XB12Ss or if you try to put a XB12Ss rear shock on a Uly. I don't suppose the Uly suspension would fit on an Ss, would it? Then you could put the Uly tail and the Uly shock on an Ss frame, and you'd be there. Or would that skew the lines of the bike too much by shoving the rear up higher than it should be? -Geof |

Damn!! I was happy with my 02 M2 but now I'm thinking of a trade-in. I wish the Lightning Long had the relaxed peg position of the Uly. It would be perfect. My old damaged knees can't handle the rear set pegs. |

Regkittrelle, I think that's the point that is being missed, the Uly is still a sport bike. If someone thinks it to be slower or inferior to an XB12S then good luck, I own both. I think the Uly is going to surprise a lot of riders, Buell and otherwise. The Uly can also accept the latest street rubber... |

I think the point that Opto, and others, is missing, is that the Uly is still, and forever will be, a TALL, tough looking adventure bile- latest street rubber or not... For some of us, that is turnoff enough. My example still stands- You can buy a Subaru Impreza WRX or Outback Turbo- they're not the same, not marketed to the same buyer, and not interchanchable to the buyers who choose one over the other, though both are 8/10ths capable in either setting by changing tires. BMW's GS is considered by many to be the Best bike ever, but they still make the K1200RS- for those that still want a Sport Touring bike. Heck, even the V-Strom is a wonderfully capable bike, but it's no Sportbike and sales here show that it's obviously not for everyone... Chevy made the Typhoon and Cyclone at one time, that could outrun the 'Vette- but 'Vette buyers didn't flock to a modded pickup or a Jimmy, fast and cool looking as they were, becuse they just weren't the right (looking, in this case) vehicles. Have I given enough examples yet? Some of us Love Buells, and really like/ are impressed by the Uly- but it's just NOT gonna' hit all my buttons for my next bike! Maybe my third, when I hit the Lottery, though... Perfect NEOhio weather, so I'm off to ride! Be Safe over the Holiday Weekend! -Mike |
