Well it was time to order a new rear tire. 3700 miles on the stocker, still some tread, but I was at the wear marks. I got an avon for 67.50 at a local shop. They want 27 to install it on the rim and balance it. 77 if I bring in the whole bike. Looks like I will be pulling my rear rim off myself. Anything I should keep an eye on when doing this? |

Its one of the easiest rear wheels to take off and put back on. Use a torque wrench on the axle nut. I would find out if they will need to pull the rear sprocket to mount the tire. If so, be sure the bolts are torqued to the correct specs with loctite (manual states to always use new bolts if they are removed-your choice). |

I will check on that thanks. Hopefully the local dealer has them in stock being as this is the second time this year the sprocket will be removed, and I am not sure if the dealer used new bolts last time when they put the sprocket on. |

Just do it yourself, its more fun than having someone screw it up for you, cheaper, and feels better when its all done! When you have the wheel off just check to see if the wheel bearings are tight, you shouldn't be able to pull them out by hand. |

Thanks swampy. It is a new rim, I spun my bearings earlier this year and had the rim replaced. I am removing the wheel from the bike myself, but am having the local bike shop install the new tire on the rim, and balance it for me. |

I just had a set of Avon's put on my blast today. I ordered them from Americanmotorcycletire.com they were $100 for the set. ground shipping to TN. was $20 and 2-3 day air was $35. Check them out for prices and if anyone can find them for less let me know please. thanks |

Those are good tires. I have an Avon rear and am still working on wearing out my stock front tire... Sounds like a good price for the set. |

I paid 67 for a rear avon a couple of weeks ago. then I think 30 for mounting with bringing just the wheel in to a local shop. sounds like you got a good price to me. |

From Ralph! - Please read! Hey gang, I just got back from a long ride with a couple of group members (Tina and Kristy), btw see opening page photo -taken just a few hours ago. Anyway, last night I changed my rear tire. BTW- I actually have a back-up spare wheel, which already had another tire mounted, but since I had time to kill- I also removed my now bald (3010 miles) Kenda 140/70 (new narrow version) tire I mounted just a couple months ago (yeah I ride alot!!!). Anyway....Bad NEWS Campers ! I WARN YOU NOW- DO NOT BUY OR MOUNT THE KENDA Scooter tire- size 140/70-16 on the Rear of a Blast anymore !!!! Whe reason ? Simple- the latest version is a dangerous Tire ! After I deflated the tire, and was about to install my bead breaker on it (tubeless tires are a bitch to break the bead lose), I thought the tire felt kinda lose on the rim already. Sooo.... I just tried to use my Hands only to break the bead...and I really don't have super strong hands either ! Guess what, I broke the bead on one side in seconds, and the other side let go within a minute of normal hand strenght ! This my friends- IS NOT Good !!!!! Obviously, these latest Kenda's- which are too wide, and designed for a rim - 1.25 inches Wider ! Are NOT lock/seated in the safety lip of our rim properly, and any defaltion will allow the bead to pop off very easily...and on the road this could be Deadly ! This Kenda is NOW a "DO NOT USE TIRE" ! It's not worth the risk ! The tire is no longer a WIDE tire anymore, and it isn't even that cheap a tire either. Also, the life span of the tread is no better than the Avon 120/80-16 which is designed for our bike ! Please head this warning and- Do not USE the Kenda on a Blast! Thankyou.... ~Ralph Thanks buddy! jugallo94, I don't know where you live but I found a place near where i work that mounts and balances for $40 on bike and $20 off bike.Plus they deal in Ironhorse choppers.(nice to dream and drool) |

I have found the place where you buy the tire will give you a good price on M & B. In other words, you dont bring your own steak when you go to a restaurant. Local place charges $10 M & B if you buy the tire from them and they match dennis Kirks prices! |

thanks swampy but its a little far to travel just to mount a tire. I have a spare tire and rim that I am taking to spiderman to try some experimenting with mounting when we get a chance. I could probably find a cheaper place to get them mounted then where I went, but I got into a rush and didnt feel like looking around, plus its the employees are pretty cool and dont screw you around. Its a small local shop called freedom cycles. |

Front brake question, on the front brake there is a flat head plug that goes over the bolt that hold the front brake pads in place. This cover seem to get stuck and will not come off. Who has a suggestion for removing this flat head plug ? It is really stuck in there good. Thanks |

I have not had a problem removing it, try a little heat it may have locktite on it. I always just used a large screw driver that didn't hit the hole. |

I agree with Swampy, You shouldn't have a problem with it. You might want to try cleaning it with some brakecleaner first. Try using a 1/4" drive ratchet to provide more leverage, or an impact driver. James |

Well long story short, brake cleaner did not work and heat did not work. I went to five place in the area to get an impact driver and just got blank stares and one person asking what is that. So I took the bike down to the local dealer early Saturday morning. Explained what the problem was and showed them my handy work. The dealer told me time and material to get it fixed. Turns out they got it fixed in a couple of hours and the final bill was $26. The dealer replaced the cap and the bolt underneath. Now I just have to keep it from getting stuck again. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Now I have to see if I can locate an impact driver on the internet. Have a great day. |

$26 was the full bill. The local dealer has always been good. Heck when I get my tires through them (Pirelli) I pay 55, per tire, for the tires and get the mounting for free as long as I bring in the rims off the bike. (Message edited by mmelvis on November 07, 2005) |

Stock 2000 front steel brake line is still available from the factory - part # H0531.B about $50. Same price as it would be to have one custom made. Only worth the money if your going to ride hard or going racing (or want something pretty). E-bay was selling them for double what they're worth. Lastly, if you dont get the lines that are covered in clear tubing they'll wear through everything they touch. |
