What are the best or recommended tires for the XB12R Firebolts? I have the crappy Dunlop 207's that came stock on the bike. Already have to change them at 2660 miles. Keep in mind that I do alot of country road riding and since I live 20 minutes from 129 thru Deals Gap (Dragon Tail) I ride it at least twice a week. Also, what is a good gear oil to use for smoother shifting? I'd also like to put a throatier muffler on board without installing the race kit. Who makes a good aftermarket muffler that will scare little old ladies at red lights? Any other information or advice about the Firebolt XB12R will be greatly appreciated.

Xander,

Tires: I'm on my second set of Pirelli Diablo Corsas. They last longer, handle better, warm up quickly, and wear better. Others have had luck with a variety of tires from Metzlers, to Michelens. Everyone will probably tell you that any new tires you decide on will work better than the stockers.

Gear oil: I switched to the Mobil 1 synthetic 75w90 and it is very noticable. Much smoother shifting. Make sure you don't over-tighten your bolts when re-installing your inspection cover. They will strip the case threads easily. Also, if you over fill with fluid by a small amount you will have problems finding neutral at a stop.

Pipes: Well, this is where you probably have to do the most research. Check into the following pipes or do searches: Drummer, D&D, Jardine, Force, and Special O.P.S. to name the favorites among Badwebbers. All have a very noticable sound enhancement. I have had a Drummer for approx 9000 miles and have been very happy. Especially with the sound. Nevertheless do the research for your personal prefs. If you are looking to keep your interactive exaust valve, check with Odie on a special ops pipe. I have heard many good things about his pipe as well as the D&D.

Service Manual: If you don't have one, buy it. It is by far the best thing I've invested in for this bike and has probably saved me the most money.

Welcome to the spot for Buell owners and good luck!

Jason

Xander:

Ditto to all Jason said.

I have a Special Ops. Its about as loud or a little louder than the race pipe, and sounds pretty raunchy. Power delivery is excellent. No surprises. I'm very pleased with it.

I like the Pilot Powers but the Corsas are great too.

I'm using Red Line synthetic 75/90. The trick on the shifting is keeping the primary chain adjusted right.

I was forced to use the 208s cause the dealer didn't have the Sportec M1s or Pilots in stock. They seem to be okay, but I miss my M1s.

I removed the stock muffler and run a straight pipe. It sounds absolutely nasty. I have noticed no lack in power. It actually feels as if I've gained some. The pipe runs straight back under the bike and exits on the right. I painted it with high temp flat black paint. I installed an exhaust pipe reducer inside the pipe to give it a little back pressure. Total cost was approx. $20.
