Anyone here ever put an XB engine in a tube frame Buell? If so, what did it take? | ||

It takes an adaptor plate to to mount the XB engine to the motormount plate of the Tuber. The XB is shorter at the rear mounting points then an XL style engine. You can then use a NRHS XB head Front Motor adaptor to mate the front mount for the frame. The most difficult part is however that rear mounting plate. | ||

Is there a rear mounting plate commercially available or is it a custom made item? I ask because with all the E-Bay bike killers selling off their goods, one just might be able to build one cool (if not interesting!) bike  | ||

Is there a rear mounting plate commercially available or is it a custom made item? Definately a custom job. The plate has to secure to the swingarm mount, the exhaust bracket mount and the rear engine mounting point at the engine from what the fabrication engineer I had look at to make one for me said. He figured anything less and the engine would move around too much, and or crack and break. | ||

Why not just stuff the tuber cases with XB components? Hal's speed shop has done several of these. | ||

"You can then use a NRHS XB head Front Motor adaptor to mate the front mount for the frame." That's for adapting just the XB heads to a tuber, not the entire engine. Where would the front link on a tuber frame attach to an XB engine? The cases are totally different. | ||

There is a front link on the XB engine as well Dj. On the Xb it attaches to the framework holding the oil cooler. You use the NRHS adapter to adapt the headmounting. | ||

Is it in a catalog not shown online? I've seen the Blast engine in a tube frame, but I never paid attention to how the link location was adapted. | ||

Haven't gotten that far yet DJ. I do not know of one that is already made, but since the link is only there for lateral movement of the engine, making something shouldn't be difficult. | ||

From the handfull of pics I have seen of the XB engine and the current parts just recently listed on ebay for an XB9, it looks like the swingarm mounts directly to the engine. Then the engine mount is at an angle above the rear of the engine at ~75 degree angle. This may be a case of just how far do you have to go to use the engine? Swingarm, rear suspension, belt idler, etc. Even then it looks like it will end up being a much shorter wheelbase.....duh! I would be open to a custom fab though. Maybe I will keep watching that XB9 engine on ebay. I have enough parts to build a racebike (Don't ask), but need forks & and engine. |
