It's fast approaching that time again.I fired up the bike for the first time this afternoon and did all the "bench" tests on the nitrous system--it's good to go.New turbo seems good.Bike sounds strong. Will get to dyno ASAP and see what we have--- Have the FrankenYammy for James running but still battling oil scavenging issues from turbo, hope to get that ironed out SOON. So,who's coming out to play this year---Sept 14-17th.Scenic Wendover.I will be arriving on the 13th to set-up and get inspected. |

FMJ, talked to Madduck on the phone a bit ago, he says the salt is a mess, long course shut down today, hoping to drag it tonight and have it open tomorrow. lots of rain, cold (50 degrees), said they had to buy long johns and wool socks for their rider. got his S2 up to 151 already, in spite of the conditions. Jim, when I ran the salt a number of years back I ran at all four USFRA meets with my turboed BMW. Many times the meet going on right now was not so good due to this regular monsoonal flow which your probably experiancing too but by the Sept. meet it usually dried up and compacted the salt to be supurb. The cooler weather helps make better HP also as you know. Keep your fingers crossed have a fine, fast time. Good luck and stay safe. Bob |

Jim - The wife and I are heading out on Sep 3 for the Bub's event. She'll head back on the 9th and I'll get to play/tour for a few days with my new bike (Suzuki DL650 - Wee-Strom). I'll be back in Wendover on the 13th for the USFRA meet. Sounds good about the bikes. James is a lucky guy - gets to cut school and go racing with his dad. Hope he appreciates the good life. Glenn |

I don't know,Pete. The 200 Club boys have established"minimums" now that make it a bit harder. My class minimums are 205 for gas and 215 for fuel, current records are 166 and 169,so even if I get a 200 run it may not get me in. Love the wisdom. |

I get a 200 run it may not get me in. Sounds like someone feels threatened. That's crazy. |

Yep. Silly old men. Make a special 200 club for motorcycles, but upping the mph requirement is silly. |

I think it would be cool to watch something like this at the flats. Whats it like? If someone wanted to check it out, how would they go about doing so, or are spectators even allowed? Do cars and bikes converge on the flats during the same week, or do teams just show up on their own. Good Luck! |

Bart - There are several events each year. SCTA/BNI (www.scta-bni.org) has events in August and October. USFRA (www.saltflats.com) has a meet in September. BUB's exhaust (www.speedtrialsbybub.com) puts on a motorcycles only event the week after Labor Day. Spectators are allowed and it's a kick to see the pages of Hot Rod come to life. (Okay, I spent too much time looking at Hot Rod and not reading my civics text in high school.) Glenn |

Bart; I was never a big gear head, but my first time at Bonneville (and the following for that matter) was amazing. The machinery out there is spectacular and all in a fantastic state of tune. It didn't dawn on me how fast these guys were going until I saw one team packing the parachutes ... Very cool stuff. Check out the old Team Elves site: http://www.teamelves.com/ From the front page, go to the Bonneville drop-down menu and select an event. There are both written reports as well as picture galleries that will give you an impression. Hook up with the guys going out there. It's not rare that a team can use a helping hand at the track. Bart, cars and bikes do usually run together, one at a time, naturally, on either a short or long course. Bikes usually on the short course. Once you pay at the entrance, spectator or driver, you are pretty much able to go anywhere from the pits to the far end. When I spectate, after roaming the pits for a while I will park at the three mile marker and video cars and bikes at speed. If you do this remember there is absolutely no shade anywhere unless you bring it. There are concession stands and a lot of portajons. Go once and you'll be hooked. Bob |

Come on,Bob.Some of us bike guys run on the long course. And alot of cars on the short course. The magic number is 175,you have to have run over 175 to be allowed on the long course. |

My Brother-in-law just got back from Bville today... He says the track is in bad shape. Also lots of wind and water. Wind closed the track at times and it rained again the last night they were there. A driver in one of the roadster classes rolled his car and was killed. My brother-in-laws crew decided to not even make a run with their truck after driving 700 miles. Be careful there buddy. |
