I love my XB9S, it's great for carving corners, commuting, and 400 miles days on backroads. It's not so great for highway trips longer than 30 minutes.

For a second bike I am looking for something with storage and all day highway comfort, but not quite as large as a Goldwing. The Concours and a few BMW's come to mind. Anyway, I do not know tat much about touring bikes.

Does anyone know of a good forum for touring bikes? I need to learn more about the bikes and want to find some groups that are planning Xcountry rides.

30 minutes max? There are many that can go touring on their XBs.

If you really need a different bike, have you checked out the Ulysses?

If I only had the cash...

Tpoppa,
Here's a pretty good one for sport touring, which sounds like what you're looking for:

http://www.sport-touring.net/

There was quite a bit of discussion about the Uly on that board too.

Tpoppa-I know just what you mean.I am a very happy owner of an XB9SL.To me,nothing out there handles, looks,or has any where near the attitude of Buells. That being said, they ain't no touring bike.I also have a Honda ST1100.For long distance stuff, the thing is beautiful-smooth as cream, quiet as an air conditioner, and you can carry everything you could want on it.Take a look at them,I love mine.In all honesty, the Concours is also a great sport-tourer,and less expensive.Whatever way you go,sport touring bikes rock.Once you have spent a week-end out and about on a hard bagger, you'll never go back.Happy hunting!

I routinely do 400-500 mile (all curvy backroads) days on My XB. If you can do 400 miles on on an XB on the highway you're a better man than me, or you have lost the feeling in your knees.

XB's are great for what they are designed for, backraods, commuting, track days, ect.

For a second bike, I am looking for something I could ride from Cleveland to Vegas and carry a weeks worth of gear. Something I could mount highway pegs on, but not a big as a Goldwing. I am not opposed to modification.

Could an ST1100 handle that? I've never ridden one.

The Uly is nice, but not for me.

An ST1100 Honda could not only go from Cleveland to Vegas(in relative comfort,by the way)if it could talk it would say something like "Will there be anything else, sir?"The bike has been referred to in magazine tests as a "mileage disposal unit".It is a wonderful bike for long distance stuff.I have a Givi top case in addition to the hard bags, and I'm able to carry my tent, sleeping bag, clothes, food, drinks, everything you could want for a week. All without tying stuff on or any of that crap.(nothing flappin'around behind me)I just got back from a 4 day trip to Lake Ontario/St.Lawrence seaway without so much as a hiccup.See if you can get to ride one somehow? The only fly in the ointment,if there is one,is that there is more "soul"in the Buell,no question.Different tools for different jobs.

Tpoppa,
If you do want to keep it "in the family" you will not find a better buy than a 2001-2002 Buell S3T. These bikes seem to have minimal reliability issues, and are available cheap.

I have ridden over 600 miles a day on my S3, and found it to be superior to my 94 Goldwing for comfort, 50+ MPG, and the great feeling of riding the best sport tourer that exists. Try one, you will be surprised.

I just put on 2400 k my xb9r a few weeks ago with 2 1000 k days. My only complaint is the lack of padding in the seat.

My XB is an awesome tourer!
