Yeow! I'd ping DaveS real quick and see if you can get a new one; I'm sure he could get it to you by then.

If you do try to weld it, I'd make sure I went to a professional that knows what he's doing. You sure don't want that to happen again. Might be a real good idea to carefully check the other side for signs of cracking too.

it is an S2, that is a fairly common failure, look at the end that is welded, it should be crimped but complete, the problem ones are cut out where they are welded instead of crimped. some of you super S2 dudes please verify my memory??? someone posted pics, i believe it was ferris or firemanjim???!!!

It was a recall item. Might want to check and see if they were ever replaced.

Sleeze got it right; the touring/tall bars came in two versions. The first batch had a cut-out in the lower end of the bar, which was then welded onto the clamp. The second batch were improved (because of breakage) so that the lower end of the bar was dimpled (instead of cut) and then welded onto the clamp.

So, if you have the cut-out bars you ought to replace them.

Henrik
Edited for accuracy - thanks Fireman

That is a recall. Replacement is free. Any competant dealer should not let the bike out the door without replacing them.

Scott, which side do you need and was it a short one or the touring one--I have spare touring bars. And my recalled bars were the tall touring ones.

Sorry; the Fireman has it right. It was the taller bars that were recalled. Previous poste edited to reflect correct info.

My standard height (non-touring) S2 bar broke on me, the standard height bars are not recalled ( I asked). Fortunately someone found a set at Hal's speed shop as I was talking to them about my options.

I'd like to find a spare upper tree to modify and put risers to accept some drag bars or something.

ZT,
Check at some Ducati and other brand shops for 54mm clip-ons and see if any will work with rise and drop angle for you and also provide the necessary fairing/tank clearance. The only real problem is the 1" diameter bar controls on the S2 vs. the 7/8" bars on other bikes. Hope you get fixed up soon and glad you didn't crash.

mike- i switched to the s3 frontend so i can run standard 7/8" bars.
works great for me.
or, as you say, you could find a spare s2 tree and make, pretty easily, a HD diam. setup for drags and risers.

ztferrari sorry about the bars,, im sure we will all do what we can to help out..
if some one cant come up with the proper bar for you and you do want to go the clip on route you need 54mm clipons,, think they fit ducks,, you may need a little rise but im not sure. the front of mine dosent have stock body work any more. then your only problem is to go from a 7/8" bar diameter to a 1" bar diameter of the s2. all you need is some good old fashioned 1" 6061 al. have some one with a lathe turn the one end down to 7/8" and voilla,, your back in business billet style.. if you want you can threw drill the bars for maximum light ness. leave the solid, or just drill the 1" end and fill with you favorite vibration dampening solution.. if ya wanta get really fancy, you could even tap the ends for interchangeable bar end weights..
if ya need some one to do the turning,, just give a hollar.. you pay for al and shipping .

on the recall issue,, mine must have been recalled so i snapped some picks,, hope this may help..

nitsebes, cool yeah ive thought about it but i still love my touring bars.. so i have to make a set of varying height ones for me... funny my cockpit dosent look like that ,, looks sweet dude,, and thanks for the recognition,,,

so, now finding out that my bars were pre recall ones...i am angered. when i got my bike, it didn't have any of the recall items done on it. I took it to my local harley dealer "The Woodlands HD" and they told me i didn't need any recalls done. about 5 months later my rear shock snaps in half, and THEN they perform recalls on the bike. after dealing with ther customer service, i can say it is poor unless you want to chrome out your bike.

Well, now..I could have been badly hurt when this happened(midway wheelie or something). What would have happened if i would have injured myself? All because they didn't perform a recall that they were suppose to.
Now that dealer isn't a buell dealer, so i have to go 2 hours to the closest one without my bike? i sure cant drive it there..i dont know how this will work. anywyas, i can't stand harley d's work ethic(lazy?ignorant?). i still love buell though.

how do i go about getting new bars?

Doughnut - Probably not what your after, but I got mine at Big Lots for $0.99. Had to replace the battery about a year ago which cost about $1.50, more than the clock itself laughs. It is mounted with a piece of velcro tape. Been working fine for about five years now. Hope this helps...

Unfortunately no as it doesn't have a light. Pretty much a daytime only timepiece. I do have an Indiglow wristwatch that I wanted to modify to replace this one. Probably get to it when the snow falls.

so i go down to the hd.buell shop and show them the bar....they say theres nothing they can do about it anymore...they dont even bother with taking my vin without the bike being there. How am i suppose to drive it down with one bar? \

whatever.

end up just welding it back on and its as good as new. the original welds were really thin, this time around there's about a 1/4" bead. should be plenty enough

Ztferrari- I would highly recommend you make a call to Buell customer service and/or drop a message to Court about this. If there is an outstanding recall on your bike they are legally obligated to fix it. DaveS can also run your VIN and tell you if there is indeed an outstanding recall.
