Get one of the new 06 sliding dog ring tranmissions. It's supposed to be a bolt-in swap, and have way easier shifting than the 05 and earlier transmissions. |

Whodom, Please show me the info on how the '06 tranny is a bolt in swap on tubers. It will solve the biggest weakness my S2 has had for the past 103,000 miles, as well as my current concerns about its next 103,000 miles. All the research I've done on badweb (not all that much to be honest) and I can't find anything about retrofitting the '06 tranny into a tuber. The tubers have a trap door so that the tranny can be removed a lot easier than an XB which the cases need to be split in order to remove the tranny. If there is a way to use the tuber trap door (or even an aftermarket trap door) with the rest of the '06 tranny, I'm all ears. 1313 |

The other option is a Baker 6sp tranny: http://www.cas4.com/baker/baker-6-speed-xl-buell.htm That's what I'd do! |

why do you have to get the tranny if the dealer screwed up? |

Here is what happened. I was on a ride 400 miles from home and the bike locked in 1st gear. Went to the local HD/Buell dealer, who will be anonomous until I've had a chance to allow them to make it right, who diagosed the problem as a primary chain loosing tension and whipping around in the case self destructing, resulting in a whole bunch of little metal peices floating around in primay case. They replaced the primary chain, rotor, stator, tensioner and a few miscellaneous parts, but never pulled the tranney to clean the metal pieces out of there. I made about 100 miles when the output shaft bearing failed with resulting catostrophic internal damage. After a 70 mile tow, another dealer diagosed the problems and I elected to return home the 300 miles with the trans pieces in a box and the bike in the back of a pick-up. Finger pointing has started, but I still need to get the bike fixed. |

Gawd. Do us all a favor, willya? Find out the cost of a stock replacement tranny? It would be worth knowing just how cost effective an option the Baker might be for those of us out of warrantee with a blown stock tranny. You'll need to find out anyways to know what the dealer who screwed you owes you. |

From a known good source I have regarding an '06 tranny in a tuber: The 06 tranny will not fit in your S2 without machining the case. The machining process would not be an easy one. BUMMER! 1313 |

Does JMartz still have a full tranny laying around? Or did he sell it? |

I'd recommend the baker six speed...the extra gear will reduce your RPMs at highway cruise increasing your range per tankful slightly and probably prolonging your engine's life. When I need a transmission, that's the route I'm going to take. |
