Has anyone put straight drag bars on an XBS? I was thinking of getting the cross roads, but they're pricey and I'm putting my money into a new exhaust instead. I thought drag bars might be a cheap/easy alternative in the meantime. If anyone has run this set-up and/or has pics I'd love to see/hear what you have to say. -SC (Message edited by monorad on August 10, 2005) |

I tried putting a piece of straight T6 aluminum pipe in place of the stock bars. The tops of the shocks (where the adjusters are) sat just a little too high for the pipe to rest properly in the fork clamps. I'm sure with some dimpling it would probably work. The other problem was the width that I chose, it was a bit too narrow. The controls would have hit the frame/airbox. I haven't played with it very much but I'm sure with enough fiddling you might be able to get it right. |

Stephan....I have about the closest to drag bars as you can get without hitting the fork clamps. They are Azonic CR Low motorcross bars from www.cyclegear.com I got them on sale a while back for 30 bucks.

Mono, seeing Black_Sunshines bars sold me too. Ended up ordering a pair a few months ago, I like 'em way more than stock. I'm also saving my pennies to get the Crossroads but I'm diggin' the Azonics so far. Cyclegear.com still has them on sale, price has risen a little but you can't beat $34.99. |

TypeOne - Sunshine - I sure do like the way those bars look:-) Frankly, I like the way they look BETTER than the crossroads. Very cool indeed. Did you have to make any changes to the cables to use them? Did they just drop in? Also wondering what you guys are in terms of ht and wt. I am 6-2" /210# . Think I will like them? |

Where are those on the site, I tried to do a search, but could not find them? I found the A3's but not the CR low's. (Message edited by hardcorps on August 10, 2005) |

yup, those are them, the A3s. CR Low is the particular style bend, check out the dropdown on the order page. you'll see other bends too. http://cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=CGC_3014-116_G |

So do they require cable adjustments or not? |

sorry, forgot to answer some of those questions i'm all annoyed with my front isolator at the moment i trimmed my bars down about 1" on each side, no cable adjustments, i had to lower the forks by literally a hair so they would clear and you will have to drill holes to mount the controls (plastic horn/lights on left and start button on right). i did mine too fast didn't drill and clipped the little guide 'nubs' off the controls so they could potentially spin but haven't yet. if i remember correctly i think B_S did the same but used some lipstick for guide marks to drill. other than that they are pretty much a drop in mod. you'll need new grips of course but thats the gist. regarding my height/weight... 5' 11" / 165lbs. the bars put me in a nice aggressive dirt position that i like. not overly wide if you trim them down a bit but be careful, any more than 1" and your levers could be at weird angles due to the bend. hope this helps... i know i did a similar write-up in the archives somewhere. I really like the bars I made. I was going to get a couple made. Unfortunately, last Sun. some one cut in front of me. While trying to avoid him, I endoed the bike. I did'nt have any time to react. My bars broke but when I find out what is going on with the guys insurance co., I plan to finish them. I had a set of Tucker Rocky bars (pt#110510) on and I liked them. They did hit at full lock but with a little trimming I could of made it work. Anyway it was worth it because the bars had more pullback. It was comfortable. One word about aluminum or thin wall steel bars. If your bike goes down, the bars will bend and then the frame will take the rest of the impact. Buy frame pucks! Your better off with heavier wall pipe. Flanders bars are nice. I could'nt find any that worked. They are made from d.o.m. Since you guys removed the crossbar, anyone want to sell me the crossbar pad (assuming it would fit a SX crossbar)? BTW, nice looking bars. |

Trac95ker, Love that handlebar, and as I mentioned in the crash thread, I've been looking for one just like that for a project. If you decide to make another set I'm interested. |

I frequently ride anywhere from 1.5hr to 5+hrs with a stop or two. Just did a long haul on Sat and Sun last weekend. No issues. Mostly highway and mild curves while trucking it out to a favorite road. Spatten1 had some great feedback on the Azonics after he installed. He found the position too difficult for track days and went with Crossroads I believe. Too much input due to the wide bar was his main complaint i think. |

Creeater.....I ride from sun up to sun down in some pretty gnarley twisties here in N. Georgia. Never once felt bad. I did however get some vibration so I filled the bars up with aquarium silicon sealant (DAP brand). It reduced it by 50% at least. (Message edited by black_sunshine on August 12, 2005) |

I think it would look tough with a Renthal Fatbar. |
