Ok I'm thinking I could trade my 03 9R in against a new 12R but hang on £3000 against £7745 for the 12R. Hang on, I can get the 9R opened up to 1200 with a stage 3 head job and cams for approx £2700 plus shipping from Nallin [Turn key engine]. 105-110rwhp according to Jason from Nallin. Does this sound about right? Also the 12R is lower reving. 12R 100hp and 81ft lbs. Is that at the crank. If so what does that relate to in rwhp? Main question is what else will I need? Fuelling - PC111? Race ECM fitted. Exhaust [read muffler] - Drummer fitted. Air filter - K&N fitted with 12R cover and snorkel removed. Maybe a weight box on the front to keep the front end down eh? Please help guys. I've never had major work done on an engine before. I'd like to get some thoughts from the more experienced here. Can you lay out some things I need to think about? For example, reliability etc. |

Fitting the 1200 kit to the XB9 requires the engine cases to be bored out, necessitating a full strip down. Does the US$2700 include this or is this figure just for parts? bhp figures for the 12 are at the crank, so expect around 83-85 at the rear wheel. |

Matt some 12's are pulling as much as 92hp.83hp sounds a tad low. |

Trojan, that's everything. Like I said, a "Turn Key" engine. All I need do is bolt it in. Well, not quite. Hence the questions. What else do I need? Or what else should I do at the same time? Jason from Nallin quoted 105 - 110 rwhp and there was no mention of my mods so far or any other mods required. Do you guys think I could squeeze out a few more ponies with fueling mods etc? |

You would need a TFI and probably larger injectors for a stage 3 1200 kit. The difference between the 12R engine and a 9R converted is that the stoke on the 9R conversion will be different, shorter stroke. I'm not that sure about stroked engines but I think this would help it to rev up faster but I may be wrong. |

If you are looking at doing a turn-key engine, I'd strongly suggest using a more local performance shop that will be able to test and tune your engine using your exact exhaust tract. That either requires fitting the engine to a bike or a bench dyno. If you are up for the shipping both ways, Revolution Performance has a bench dyno. Certainly though Matt from Trojan-Horse or Jens from Hillbilly-Motors can suggest a more local solution for you. I cannot imagine the shipping expenses would be very palatable, not to mention possible taxes. |

Thanks Blake, I might do that. Wasn't thinking about customs. They can be a bitch. Bought a Buell garage shirt from Dave S a while ago and had to pay the same again for customs charges. |
