Hi friends,

What tires do you guys reccomend for a first time racing school (california superbike on the poconos in August for just one day...bike XB9S)?

Can someone guide me on the best place to get them? I am thinking something that I can use after too.

I have right now the ones that come with the bike and they have like 2.000 miles.

Thanks

There are more and more street/track day tires out there. Personally (but on an SV650) I've been very happy with Metzler Sportec M1 tires and have heard great things about the Pirelli Diablo which is supposedly a 80% street 20% track tire. If you want 50/50 it's the Diablo Corsa.

Nice round profile with neutral handling.

Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa Pro if your serious about the track, they are road legal, but don't expect too much road mileage out of them.

Henrik,
Is there any chance you got your models mixed up?
I believe Diablo Corsa = 70% trackday 30% street
Diablo = 70% street 30% trackday
Roberto -
For a first track day, I think you will be fine with the Pirelli Diablos or the Michelin Pilot Powers, (my choice).
Until you get into the expert class, these tires will most likely give you all the grip you need, and will still have about 4000 street miles in them, ( at least the Michelins will).
Good luck on your first track day:-) The trick is to start slowly, learn the track, build up speed little by little.
Don't fall down:-)

Gentleman Jon; I was just quoting from the Pirelli Diablo site:

http://www.pirellidiablo.com/en_96/diablo/master.jhtml

Just roll the mouse over each tire, and a little %-meter shows up. Pretty slick site btw.

As for grip; grip is good, but you've got to be cooking along at a pretty good clip to not get enough traction out of the Diablo Corsas. Tires really are good these days. I could usually get 2 - 3 track weekends out of a set of Sportecs depending on the tracks - Beaver Run for instance eats tires like crazy.

If you intend to use these tires on the street after, then a slightly less sticky but more durable tire will work just fine - IMHO.

One more thing; you don't need the pro supercorsas, just the reg's,pros have more rapid turn in frnt profile with more side grip, rear wears better, not a big issue on our bikes, and unless you're a pro racer!

Thanks to all.

I guess either the Diablo or the Pilot Power will be a great advancement over the stock. I found the power on the internet for 220 with shipping....so here i went.

Thanks again.

Is the Michelin a fairly "neutral" tire? I'd hate for the XB's dreaded "stand up" tendency to reappear. Metzeler/Pirelli shapes neutralize that effect pretty well.
