So it gets worse...i put the stock bars on...look down and the wheel looks a bit cocked so now i need to figure out what is bent for sure. i can tell that the left leg is out more than the right. and when at full left lock the tripples just about hit the frame and the pinch bolt almost hits the fuel neck. looks like im gonna have to make an insurance clame cuz i dont have the $$ to fix a front end (wheel? forks? tripple trees?? FRAME????) Carbon Fiber ($550), and the bars ($175) |

Hi, OK, read the thread, glad your OK. Now I have some thoughts and questions for you. My first guess would be one or more of these: Bent triple clamp, bent steering stem, bent/broken steering stop or a broken/dislodged steering head race/bearing. Of these, the least likely may be bent clamps. Did you take the front end apart after the crash? Or did you just loosen the pinch bolts and do a quick "tweek" of the forks to align it? What side of the bars took the hit? The left? Bars are a great lever and if they took enough of a hit to break them, that little steering stop or hollow steering stem didn't stand a chance. If you measure the distance from top of clamp to bottom of clamp, is it the same on both sides? If it's not, suspect stem, bearing or clamp issues, in that order. I always troubleshoot from least cost component to the most. (That way I don't waste cash) Email me if you have any questions, glad to help. Tom |

Pull the front axle, I was suprised that as small a bend as there is in my front axle had such a dramatic affect on the alignment of the forks. Just looking at the axle it LOOKS perfectly straight, its not until you roll it that you can even tell its bent. |

Roll it on glass too... I'd loosen all the pich bolts and the axle. Reomve the front wheel. Tighten all of the clamps following factory torque and replacing bolts where it calls for it, roll the axle on glass to make sure it's not bent and basically re-assemble. I'll bet something is just tweaked and under stress. Follow the manual though... |

yeah im gonna take it in to work and start lookin it over. But still im thinking its more than just that, the left side at full lock almost hits the frame and the casting on the upper where the bar clamp mounts to just about hits the fuel neck. But if this is bent im just gonna have to get some SL parts.... |

so the left fork is really bent and so are the triples, so im gonna get a front end....for an SL (and the rear spring and side stand) |

Make sure it didn't just break off one of the steering stop "tabs" on the lower triple tree. One broke on me when I crashed at Brainerd. It let the steering turn lots more on that side. |

thats not the problem, when the head lights and the bars are straight the left leg sticks out farther than the right, and if you look down the preload adjusters dont point the same way (like they are cross eyed)....i wonder if the top triple got tweaked left and the lower got tweaked right, that would make the leg out farther than the other |
