Borrowedbike- You should have maybe tried starting with ~3000 or more RPM with the 9, and maybe even in second gear because of the different power curve.
Some people prefer to rev out their bikes more, and the 9 makes good power up to redline (likes to rev, and is very smooth up there), while it probably doesn't do much good to rev the 12 to redline a lot. It just comes down to what kind of power delivery you like. Really grunty immediatly or a little later on. Riding style is important. There is a valid reason why the two different engines are available. I suspect maybe coming from a Japanese I-four to a Buell, the 9 will be more familiar and comfortable, although still completely different and new. But if the 12 floats your wheel, go for it. The wheelie poppin' action the 12 would provide is calling to me these days. But...
I like both the 9 and 12, but prefer the 9 as you know. My 9 lifts the front wheel pretty good at I think around 2800-3200 in first gear when I whack the throttle open. If there's a small little hill or bump it turns into a huge wheelie. I think at sea level I would see a significant improvement too.

I noticed that Republic Harly on the Southwest freeway didn't even list Buell on it's web site as an option to buy even though Buell's web site has a link to theirs. Goe in Angelton is the one that has an 05 bolt 12. I might ask for a ride. I would have to get the service there because I live in Lake Jackson. By the way does anyone want to buy a Bandit 1200S |

I put about 200 miles on my bike tonite riding through some sweeping highway roads.
That kept me around 4k in 5th for extended periods of time. I just love how the 9 feels at that range.
It was super Smooth and had loads of power. My hand feels directly connected to the rear tire.

Good Point DanaP, "Speed is just a question of $" Do you want to go $fast$ or do you want to go $$$FAST$$$, anything is possible.
45, I must concede that as the RPM was higher the 9 delivered more (very smooth) power, but I like the low end torque, thus intentionally loading it up to see what happened. I like the 12, but To each his own, as long as it's made in the USA. |

Well, I've set up some Demo rides at Mancuso Crossroads in Houston for Tuesday. Now I need to work on an excuse for my wife about getting another bike one year after getting my Bandit. I'm sure you guys can help me out on that one. |

Tell her I sent ya! I'll take the heat for you. I've got a race kitted 9 and have ridden a stock 12. I too was like another board member here and didn't care for the color scheme of the 12...no big deal. But I'd probably have a 12 with a kit on it now, had it tickled my pickle a little more. I felt that my 9 runs out of breath at low rpms with high throttle openings when the 12 doesn't at all. That's about my only gripe on the 9 vs. 12 debate.
I intentionally loaded up the CityX (Third gear at 2200 RPM, slight up-hill ~25 MPH) and whacked the throttle, bike did nothing for half a second then slowly caught some revs. Same test on the 12, immediate launch. That ladies and gentlemen, was it for me.

Scitz - HIt me up. I live in OKC too and you can ride my 12s if I can ride your 9r.

Well guys, it doesn’t look good for a demo today, unless they have a car seat I can put my kids in. One is sick and I am the only one available to take care of him. I might pull off an after 6 demo ride if I can get there in time. If not it will be next week health and weather permitting |

I completely prefer the 12. The 9's feel really weezy from midrange down. The 12's have that lumpy low to midrange torque. I love that. |

until we get on our Buells, and they get stuck behind some cager doing the speed limit on a nice twistie backroad

Remember me telling everyone I was a patient man? Well God is going to test my patients as I checked my schedule and I will not be off another week day until September 8th. Saturdays would be problematic also.That will give me enough time to develop a plan to get my wife on board with the purchase. Lets see
1) It is an American made product and I am helping the US economy.
2) It is a bad ••• bike and I will not have the desire to replace it any time soon. I might want to add to the collection but I will omit that little piece of information.
3) There will not be one on each corner.
4)........ Help me out guys.

5) great gas mileage. Money saved on gas should provide an extra night out or two with the misses.
6) Very reliable. The money saved from not having the bike in the shop for expensive tech only services should provide extra money for a night or two out with the misses.
7) big smile & good mood from riding Buell will make the rider much easier to live with.
Ya just gotta convince her that it's good for her too in the long run.  |

Any more thoughts on XB9CityX vs XB12? A riding buddy of mine is saying I won't miss the power of the '06 XB12Ss that I am also looking at. I passed on the used untitled '04 XB12S (they wanted $8,600), and will be going for an '06 model with the improvements that come with all '06 models, including improved transmission and more fuel in frame. I dislike the gold wheels, and am wondering if I can get the dealer to swap them with the black wheels that come with the CityX, if I go with the 12Ss. I got information regarding RPM at 65mph for XB12Ss being 3440 at 65mph. What do the XB9's turn at that speed? |
