I just read Chicago last nite started enforcing noise laws on motorcycles.....check it out abclocal.go.com/wls/ .....Kinda ironic I got my AMA mag yesterday and it has a long article on exhaust noise............ | ||

The metric cruisers with open pipes *REALLY* sound like poop, and are annoyingly loud. The HDs with open pipes are just annoyingly loud  How about they start also cracking down on the "BOOM BOOM BOOM" rattletrap bumpin' stereo guys at 2AM? I'm sure the people living around Holy Hill didn't appreciate our 'lil ride last weekend. Rolling on and off the throttle from 4K to 6.5K is a tad loud on my S3. I have to repack my race can. It's got 18K on it, and I'm SURE it's never been repacked. | ||

Ya I was just on the phone with Fiery and the boom-boom thing came up as well as the import car loud exhaust. I bet the AMA and ABATE people will be busy Monday! | ||

When the law enforcement begins to enforce ALL laws with the same vigor.. ie not using turn signals, turning and taking the outside lane, etc etc.. Just another method for the politcians to "look" like they did somethings. registar to VOTE and vote educated don't allow part politics or the news media tell you who to vote for. Send a message and VOTE. | ||

Ok, so who are the candidates that support Loud Pipes???  The part that scares me the most about this is if the law makers simply use the EPA's OEM or OEM Equivalent clause. In essence, as in Kaukauna, WI, anyone with an aftermarket pipe is fair game for the LEO's. The inverse is, Viva la Straight Pipers. With their stupid "Loud Pipes Save Lives" BS, they have forced the aftermarket in to researching and developing stealth performance mufflers. Now that is something I can live with!!! | ||

Well in all fairness you should hear the rest of the story concerning Kaukauna WI this past spring. After being asked by the local judge the the officer stop writing so many tickets the officer decided to continue jis business as usual. He was rewarded with a suspension without pay. That's what I was told happen, don't quote me on it, but it is pretty reliable news. Personally I HATE loud bikes on the street. We just recently had the Milwaukee rally which is held at State Fair Park (1.5 miles from my house). I had bikes tearing down 84th street all night making tons of noise and getting nowhere fast. If it meant putting my stock exhaust back on my M2 I would gladly do it to not have to listen to all those obnoxious bikes. | ||

The ultra-cliched saying that "one person can mess things up for everyone" really applies here. There are so many jackasses out there that are ham-fisted with the throttles, at stop lights, in urban areas, etc.. Most often, they seem to think that everyone is impressed with their ability to make a racket. IMHO riding a potentially ear-shatteringly (is that a word?) loud bike is akin to scoring a touchdown. My coach told me to hand the football to the ref in the endzone and act like I've been there before. Its the same idea on two wheels. Just act like you've been on the bike before. Jesus, where is the novelty? | ||

In Vancouver its the yuppie Harley crowd leaving the downtown Starbucks at full throttle with the noise from the straight-pipes echoing through the canyons of sky-scraper condos at 11:00pm. The predictable response is roadblocks with decible meters( like a liquor stop-check) on the bridges into downtown when they have a crack down and everyone gets roped in at the same time. The ticket would include having to show the bike for inspection with proper pipes. Which would be nearly impossible for the Sporty, since the rear-sets won't allow it. Best to keep up with currrent events and stay out of downtown 'til the fuss dies down. Police really have better things to do most of the time. They just have to react to complaints from time to time, I reckeon. | ||

I would give up my Force pipe in a second for a pipe that was as quite as the stock muffler, produced the same HP and weighed the same. Also one that doesn't fall apart in 5000 miles like my V/H. | ||

the Chicago Pols who are lobbying against loud pipes are responding, believe it or not, to the folks that elected em, and the complaints coming in regard to the noise generated -- no matter what your stance on loud pipes, ya gotta love THAT bit o news ;-} the chances of the electorate at large beginning to complain about left lane bandits, drivers of cars with the turn-signal-delete option, and cell phone talking zombies (Chicago passed a no-cell-phone-usage-w/out a hands free device, btw), and newspaper readers while driving are pretty slim, I'm thinkin I rode past one o Chicago's finest t'other day with my Wileyco -- granted, I was at fairly low revs (being in a residential area), and the WIleyco ain't zactly a "lookit me" kinda can, but the constable glanced at me, and went back to whatever had been occupying him when I rolled up -- no muss, no fuss -- I'm figuring you're fine so long as you don't set off car alarms and the like |
