I notice Brian, you picked AMA sanctioned track, they tend to be bigger with longer straights than most of the more club level tracks. We are talking about handling here aren't we? Why not make it any track if you are that confident.

Here we go again making special arrangements for the Buell. We're not putting a GSXR1K or ZX10 up against it. Heck, my F4i probably puts out the same HP as an XB12 right? I don't understand what the big fear is? Perhaps its the 6500rpm limit? Perhaps it's the engine that is holding the bike back? Why do you want to run on a small, club level track with the best handling motorcycle of all time? Surely a machine with that pedigree should be competitive against a 4 year old F4i. Heck, the 2002 F4i doesn't have inverted forks and runs regular old Nissin brakes. Why all the apprehension?

Yep, you might beat some of them, you're a pretty good rider, some of the Buell riders will hand you your a$$.

There are 15 year old kids out there on 125cc machines that'll kick my butt too. So again, why the apprehension?

In this thread both Eeeeek and Chop have been attacked for basically stating that the XB in stock trim isn't a great platform for the track. I agree with them. I'll take it a step further and state that in race trim the XB isn't a great platform for the track either! The engine is the problem.

So I put out a challenge to run a 4 year old bike employing inferior technology against the greatest handling motorcycle EVER and already we're giving it special dispensation. You guys know the truth in the back of your heads. You just won't admit it.

P.S. Kudos to Eeeeek for posting his letter to the AFM. He should run for public office! He actually got the BadWeb crew to THANK him for informing an official racing body that the XB is completely uncompetitive on track and that they have nothing to worry about if they allow it to compete against machines with 1/2 the displacement. You're good Eeeeek . You're good.

No, I'm betting he could care less; he'd not buy into this bait.

Think about it, he has a new model poised to leap off the sales room floors. . . he's within days of heading to Europe where the bike is already being heralded . . . and his "Erik Buell Signature" guitar is getting rave reviews and will soon be in production.

I'll give you $1,000 for each minute of sleep Erik has lost over this.

So enjoy abusing your friends as long as you can keep them
- Anonymous

Ya know what? Shove it.

I dont need to have you or anyone else at Buell questioning what I give to a group of friends or how I support their racing effort just because I disagree with the findings of a friggin article.

if thats how you define "friends" and thats how shallow you are...

I feel VERY sorry for you.

and ya wonder why we at Sacborg accuse posters here of being Kool-aide drinkers.

its not tooooooo much of a stretch when you take into consideration the BS that has been generated here by just disagreeing with an article.

Anon., you wrote:

"Snail, don't bet that the Hayabusa club would have welcomed you with open arms at Bonneville were you to have shown up with a Buell. Unfortunately, you, like them and Vic and Chop and Cecil, can take just fine as long as you don't have to give back."

That was a rude thing to say, when I went to Bonneville I took a trailer, barbeque, elk steak, etc. and made the trailer and barbeque part of the Team Elves resources. After the event I spent a week cleaning salt out of my trailer, and you know what? I'd do it again, gladly.

As Fireman Jim said, I opened my home, and my shop to the Buellers on the All Cali ride. I'd do that again too.

I have never refused a favor to any Bueller, and have always responded to quetions about Buell maintenance, when I could help someone out.

I was the one that originaly thought of an idea, a 'help Buellers' group that was developed by Don Casto.

Anon., there's a lot more of the above in my portfolio. Lots more. I turned my back on Buell motorcycles, but never on the friends I have made in the Buell community.

Now take a look at how I was treated on my first Brag ride. My Buell broke down and I was left, abandoned at the Laguna Seca track, with NO HELP whatsoever from either the Buell demo people, or the Brag organizers, (a year later I got a personal apology form Leslie over what happened), but it was friends, not Buell, that got me home.

I paid my dues, like Vik (spelled with a 'k' for your info) I had a series of bad experiences with my '99 Buell, and moved on to a different brand.

The Hayabusa people have treated me well, just like the Elves treat me well. We're friends, and neither they, nor I, particularly care what brand of bike we race. Hank Booth and John Noonan have provided me with parts, links, and spent hours explaining to me how to proceed with a current turbo project. They are excellent people.

Terry Parsley tuned my Gixer on the Vallejo HD dyno last year.

Anon., you owe me, Vik, and Chop an apology.

Added - '"Snail, don't bet that the Hayabusa club would have welcomed you with open arms at Bonneville were you to have shown up with a Buell. Unfortunately, you, like them and Vic and Chop and Cecil, can take just fine as long as you don't have to give back."

I donated 300 lbs. of #1 fresh caught troll salmon to be barbequed at Woz's pits at Laguna Seca for the enjoyment of some Buellers. Some money was raised by donation, and it was given to Woz's race team.

My challenge to Anon. is to find one single person that has met me that will agree with his assesment of me. Just one person, out of over fifty Buellers I have met.

One other thing to note on the Bonneville experience. After I got my record I let two different Elves ride my Gix to get into the 150 club, something they were't able to do with their Buells.

Noonan gave me a few nuts and bolts to put on my Triumph last time I ran it at Bonneville...

so (Victory sign) to you Anonymous.

Like Snail said, "friends" goes WAY beyond disagreeing which motorcycle might corner the best, which supermodel has the nicest arse (although I think I might have a little insight on that one , having personally sampled... well, nevermind... but I'm sure there is some mathmatic formula which could tell us, beyond ANY question which one IS the best arse, no matter which one we think is best...), or which brand of beer tastes better while discussing said topics.

and Snail, dont expect an apologee. I suspect Anonymous wont offer one, or if Greg (thats Anonymous' name right?) did it wouldnt be genuine. Thats just how he feels about his friends, and thats fine. Not wrong or right, just how he is.

sad really.

This thread has become embarrassing. Geez, the magazine made the claim, why argue it here.

The EGOS are running rampant.

Put away your swords boys. Those of us who ride XBs are comfy with the bike, what it is and what it isn't.

How hard is it to go and buy a used Honda F4 (nice bike by the way) and claim you are Rossi.

Geez. get a life and move on and ride your Buells.

That is why we are here!

Off to ride, see you later.

What a maroon...

Posted by Brian -
"Erik Buell can bring an XB, suspension mods/tweaks allowed but otherwise has to be bone stock, to an AMA sanctioned track of his choosing (I'm sure it'll be the smallest one). I'll show up with my 2002 F4i and we'll see which bike turns better lap times. "

Then posted by Dave -
"I notice Brian, you picked AMA sanctioned track, they tend to be bigger with longer straights than most of the more club level tracks. We are talking about handling here aren't we? Why not make it any track if you are that confident. "

"Here we go again making special arrangements for the Buell."

I suppose I'm just glad that you chose to include the word "we" so you could at least take part of the responsibility for making "special arrangements" Brian. The problem remains though... YOU are the one that decided to make special arrangements.

The engine doesn't hold the bike back as much as you think Brian. It's just not delivered from the factory in race trim. If you'd like a race trim XB... go make one. It's the SAME story for just about ANY other bike (save the homologation specials of course ; )).

You're right Tramp... It's just a motorcycle. It's just an article. It's just a "W". It's just a #1 plate. It's just another box.

I see your point... I do. It's just that I enjoy discussion. Not as much as riding by any means. But I can't do that RIGHT NOW. So I'll discuss. I type fast. It's not like it takes that much time...

hey, i got an idea... how about Willow Springs?

didnt I meantion that 12,000 posts ago? just to have it poo-poo'd?

three tracks, no waiting.

Wide open HP track (not all straights btw, with a set of the fastest cornerrs yer likey to find on ANY track ANYWHERE, Us or Eurpoe)

Tight, Twisty track... good compbo of handling and HP.

M1 Combat, you've never ridden the new breed of superport/superbikes, have you? They come from the factory ready to race. Hell, the ZX6RR even comes with a 520 chain.

I have literally seen people buy a new GSXR and a roll of white duct tape, tape over the headlights and slap some tape on the tail section, put on numbers, change the rear sprocket and tires and race competetively.

Which comes back to my original point: For a Buell to be competetive, it takes a lot more. Not saying it can't be competetive or it doesn't handle well. Check the archives, I'm simply saying it's cost prohibitive to run a Buell comptetively.

Does that have anything to do with the Bike Magazine article? No.

OK, anony, time for you to throw in one of your insult grenades and run.
