The Owner's manual for the XB12R states that the fuel capacity of the bike is 3.7 gallons. When I fill up (about 10 miles after the fuel light comes on) I normally only get 2.6 gallons of fuel into the bike. What is everyone else's experience with the fuel capacity? Thanks | ||

My XB 12S regularly gets around 125-128 miles before the fuel light goes on. If I fill up soon thereafter it takes 2.7 gallons. So I've got 1 gallon left correct? I'm thinking after 150 miles it's a perfect time to get off and enjoy the next caffeine rush I've so obviously earned.NUTS | ||

the longest i have gone is 156 miles on a tank, have never run it dry, so dont know for SURE. the general consensus here seems to be that we can hold 3.4 gallons usable capacity. the most i have ever pumped is 3 gallons in my XB12. so that is all i can say for sure is that mine WILL use 3 gallons. | ||

On my XB9SX the light comes on a little after 100mi (from a full tank). When I fill it up at that point I'm putting in about 2.7gal so there's roughly 3/4gal in there. I'm guestimating I get about 150 miles to a full tank if I run it close to dry, I haven't tried yet. | ||

Mine comes on always at 2.8 gal. Never more never less. | ||

So nobody has been daring enough to actually run the thing dry and see how much fuel it holds? I am sure I will run out of gas one day and I guess at that point I will have the answer. Thanks for the input. | ||

In my experience, the .7 gallons reserve is accurate. My light turns on after 2.7 gallons had been used, so my capacity is 3.4 gallons. | ||

I run out of fuel consistently, usually on the average of once every couple of months. The most I was able to pump into it was 3.459 gallons on a 2003 XB9R My fuel light seems to come on between 125-130 miles. Down hill grades it seems to come on sooner. Fuel pick up in the rear of the frame? | ||

After riding leisurely on the interstate I was shocked to see I had gone 162 miles (clock was up instead of the trip meter) on one tank. I stopped and filled up as soon as he light came on (2.8 gallons), so I had gotten some killer mileage! Imagine if had that 4.4 gallon capacity of the Ulys! | ||

The longest I have gone on reserve...42 miles...and filled it with 3.4 gallons. The shortest I have gone on reserve...29 miles...and squeezed in 3.6 gallons. The first time the temp was 95F, the second time the temp was 40F. Now if I get close to 20 miles on reserve I make certain to take the next fuel stop, even if its just going to be for 1 gallon of fuel due to it being low octane only. | ||

I was just about to mention that Mikel. I have run mine dry once. I forgot to check how much it took though... Sorry... It wen't dry at 41 miles but some of that was city driving and the temp was in the 70's. Also... You can get it to go a little further by leaning the bike to the left and then starting it back up... | ||

Small point. I wonder if everyone has noticed that it takes a few seconds for the fuel to drain into the tank. In other words, if you fill the tank to the top ring, and wait a few seconds, the fuel will drain down, you can add a little more. Not sure how much:-) | ||

Yeah, a guy I know (Charlie) had two one gallon containers as saddlebags (custom made with mounts and covers). Wired into a pump with a switch, he could reach back, loosen the lid (or lids) and pump either one or both into his main tank. after a couple minutes he'd turn the pump off, then tighten the lids down. Worked really well! |
