What happened with the catch cans that Norrisperformance was going to make. I sent a few PM's but no answer. Did anyone get a catch can? Is he still in business? Just wondering. After he received his sponsorship here I have not seen any activity regarding his catch cans and such. | ||

They are EXCELLENT cans too. I got one of the proto's to try out and it's VERY well done. All of the little engineering details were spot on (like fittings that point in exactly the right direction when tightened down). GREAT piece of work. | ||

M1, I remember your previous posts about how the can fit well. That is what got me thinking. Norris was very busy posting for a while there regarding the Drummer, then designed the can, then disappeared  Al, are you going to resell the Norrisperformance catch cans? | ||

I all ready paid for mine, I was wondering when it would show up. I haven't received replies to my emails either. I do however understand how projects can get sidelined due to other commitments. Just wish I had some sort of time line. | ||

I just started cutting material. Getting ready to start machining them. After the machining is completed, they will be sent out to be anodized. Should be ready in three weeks. I’m sorry for the delay! I’ve been greasing the wheel that squeaks the loudest. I’ve ordered another CNC mill, and relocating the shop. Experiencing some growing pains. I apologize and hope I’ve not inconvenienced anyone. | ||

Glad to here everything is OK. Growing pains are the best kind of pains to have  I started the thread because I was interested in the product and wanted to know if they were available. Uh Blake Al will be stocking and selling the catch cans on the BadWeb. That’s still legal right???? At this time, the hundred bucks a month will be going towards more demanding priorities in the budget. Like the payment on the $75,000.00 CNC mill, on order. It would also be hard right now to find enough time to keep up with the postings and questions on the BadWeb. When things settle down a little, I’ll send you some more of the green stuff. | ||

There are two breather hoses from the engine that Buell runs into the air box for EPA reasons or some shiite. Im not sure but i think they vent the crankcase? Anywho, some oil vapor and residue come through these hoses. You may notice some oily residue on the inside of your air box if you open it up. Some riders like to rerout these hoses out of the air box into a can(collector) instead of having this oily scum routed back into the intake. Mr. Norris has devised a real nice setup for this. If I have made any misstatements in this explanation, please, someone correct me. Hope this was helpful. | ||

it catches the water vapor and oil mist instead of it being dumped into your air box. You know that nasty goo that sometimes shows up in the bottom of your air box? two rubber hoses behind the velocity stack (crank case vents) are the source of the offending goo. Hope that helps. The EPA would prefer that it went into and through your engine instead. | ||

Ed, What they said...that "nasty goo" is a combination of the piston ring blowby that goes down into the crankcase, then up the oil drain back tubes into your rocker boxes, and then out thru the breather exits. All that while it is picking up oil fumes and mist. The XB's don't tend to fill a catch can anywhere near as fast as the tubers, since gravity pulls rocker box oil into the breathers on the tuber/XL side head exits, and gravity pulls the oil away from the exits on the XB PCV valves. All street legal vehicles are required to cycle it back into the intake, but motorcycles used for closed course competition, you know, all those bikes running Buell race and other aftermarket mufflers and race ECMs  , route it out of the intake for a couple easy HP. Some run it as a naked hose (flow is just out anyway, but you do tend to get a drip below your bike when parked). Some run it to a breather filter (here), used essentially as a breather diaper (that needs to be cleaned every now and again, but it prevents the oil spot below your bike parking spot). Others catch the splooge with a catch can and just drain that occasionally. Any ring blowby cycled back into your intake dilutes fresh combustible intake charge with basically un-burnable O2 depleted air. So routing it out is a good idea power-wise. The hoses, Tee, and such is one of the components of our open airbox kit. For closed course competition vehicles, of course. Mike's catch can is styled specifically for the XB, designed to mount in a most sano way on the oil cooler mount, which is the easiest place to route the breather line to as well. It is a clean solution. We have a cool round polished billet catch can, but this one on an XB is the coolest. long answer for a 5 word question, eh? Al | ||

Hey Al, I read here somewhere that taking the tubes out of the airbox decreases the vacuum and then the tubes dont vent properly. Is there any truth to this? Thanks Mark | ||

I don't know for sure, but I would imagine that would be true. However, the crank pressure pulses should provide some flow and it really just means that you should change your oil slightly more frequently. The main benefit to this is that you aren't running oily, watery residue through your engine. It causes carbon build up in the combustion chamber and on the valves. I'd rather change my oil regularly and have a clean engine  . |
