Just wanting to hear what folks are expecting in terms of mileage from rear tires. The rears seem to go alot faster than the fronts. This pair of metzler M1's are worn down to the belt in the middle the rest of the tire looks brand new. The front tire looks brand new. I've got about 4K Mi's on them in aggressive commuter driving - i.e. no burnouts, no track days, no peg dragging. I had a similar experience with Dunlop D208's. I think both of these tires fall into the "Super Sport" category. The new XB9SX comes with Pirelli Scorpion Sync's. It's difficult to tell based on the marketing info (can't find the same kind of info on hardness, etc that you see for car tires )on Pirelli's web site. I think they are calling this a "Sport" tire which would imply that it might survive a few more freeway miles. Am I doing it wrong or is this reasonable mileage for a tire lucky enough to avoid roofing contractors? Anyone have any strong feelings about Pirelli Scorpions? |

D205's gone in 4000 miles (worn to potato skins). D207 rear gone in 3500 miles. Front lasts roughly 6500 miles (very cupped, bald center). Other rear changed at the same time. D208 front with D220 rear both gone in about 3000. Pirelli Diablo Corsa both in 4500 miles. Current tire is Pirelli Skorpion Sync... |

I love the Skorpions. They're good in the wet, great in the dry, and can handle gravel and poor surfaces relatively well. They have very neutral steering characteristics and feel stable at lean. They seem to be fairly soft (ripples in the tire on hard rides makes me think so) but have a lot of rubber so I think they should wear fairly well. |

My factory Scorpions are close to 7k miles on them, and are now showing the wear bars. Still a long way from threads though. I love 'em, and will stick with them. Unless those XB12X rears start getting great reviews as well, if they are similar in wear and similar in cost, I may go with them just because they look so cool! |

I've gotten about 11K from front tires and 5.5 to 6K from a succession of Pirelli sport touring tires. |

Thought that I should start contributing. Below are my tire results for my '98 & '97 S3s: Dunlop Original Rear - 4,877Mi ContiForce Rear - 3,092Mi, 6,063Mi Bridgestone BTX20 Rear - 7,952Mi, 5,265Mi, 6,410Mi Dunlop SprtMax D220 Rear - 3,061Mi Bridgestone BTX20 Front - 6,613Mi, 5,880Mi, 10,100Mi I presently have Continental Road Attack's on the front and rear. Rear is less than half used, and I expect to get over 8,000Mi on it. (Presently have 4,229Mi on the rear & 3,600Mi on the front.) |
