Thats just to much! one thing about it the guy who got fired, Will likely find a better job, the guy who did the firing will likely have problems in the comunity When young my dad worked for one of the oil co's in existance at that time. He purchased the co's product out of loyalty, But when he needed to he got it else where. this one falls under bad judgment, as the story spreads in the community, I wonder how the riding residents will react, I would be cautious about traiding in that shop, mistreated employees tend to do poor quality work. |

Hmmm, I think I'd be getting a lawyer. He'll get a better job and he'll more than likely get some revenge as well. JT |

Babbitt terminated another employee for buying a Honda off-road motorcycle from a different vendor. This dealer needs to have his arse kicked. |

Michigan is a right to work state, nothing a lawyer could do about it. Same here in Ohio. Sounds to me like the story was done from the guy who got fired point of view. There were prior issues indicated and I'm sure he knew he was instigating something when he rode it into work. Dealer is getting bad publicity over it, but it's also a small town paper, so if the guy who got fired is an a-hole, enough people will know it that it won't affect the dealers bottom line. If he's a good citizen in the community, the dealer could suffer big time. |

impulse, getting a lawyer will be a waste of time, as here in michigan, we are an "employment at will" state which means that you can be fired for no reason and without recourse. the same goes if you want to quit, no notice has to be given. |

There is no "cause of action" here. It is perfectly legal to fire someone for riding a Harley-Davidson or being ugly. "protected classes" are prescribed in various employment laws.

Cases like this hold true across the board. Some take it to the extremes. The line was drawn in the sand earlier. Now they have to enforce it across the board. Would Pepsi Co want its workers wearing Coca Cola gear at work? Or the other way around? |

i would hope their would be more to the story then just the purchase of a certain type of motorcycle to lose your job. not all Ford workers drive ford cars, or chevy, or pontiac and so on. Here in Virginia owners are very much hogtied when it comes to firing people. the same is true when it comes to renting or selling property. It's hard to be selective. I sort of wish the guy who bought a HD and got fired is a minority. Al sharpton on this case would make for some great TV laughs. |

I have friends who work for coke, if they are seen buying or drinking pepsi, or any other soft drink not bottled by a coke plant, they get fired. And pepsi is the same way. |

Harley-Davidson, in the good ol' days, had an exec who did a pretty fair job of keeping Honda's out of the parking lot. A bit "over the edge", but it worked. Ask Dave Gess to tell you some time.

It could be worse - if we speak out against our employer, we could be thrown in jail. And you darn sure better not be caught wearing something to work that doesn't have your company's name on it - that's worth a good butt-chewing, some un-compensated overtime, and possible a demotion. Oh, and if we do something to sabotage our company's plans, we could be summarily executed. Those are some tough rules to work under! It is a pisser that the guy got fired, but if it's legal, then there's not much he can do about it. The press, on the other hand, may have inadvertently helped the guy out by publishing this story. If he were smart, he'd go to the local HD shop to try to get a job. |

Poser, Not sure he ever rode the HD to work. That I might could see, but if he didn't ride it to work, firing him is over the top. I sure wouldn't ever spend my cash at such a place. |

I am a computer Operator, I blow things up all the time. Mostly computer programs though, not as fun as trucks and stuff... I think it is a crock of crap though. If a company doesn't want to pay me for being at work 24 hrs a day then they can't tell me what to drive, eat, or drink. |

Hmm, re-read it and your right. Yep, big difference to me also if that's not the case. I'd have to think there's more to this story than this. I can't see anyone firing a good employee just because of something as trivial as that. |

There will probably be much wailing and gnashing of teeth over this, and the guy might even get his job back. Unfortunately, it will be for the wrong reason, i.e. it's a Harley, the great American icon. No one will point out the basic injustice of being fired because you have an opinion or have the temerity to exercise your prerogative to choose what works for you. |
