I bought my '03 XB9s with the Corbin already on it. I rode home about 800 miles and HATED the seat. I put the stock seat back on and it doesn't fit right. It shifts forward and back about half an inch (and it has zero traction on the surface of the seat itself = sliding balls into the tank). I really want to like the Corbin, but I put another 400 miles on it today and just can't take it. Is there another seat option? I looked at Sargent and Mustang, but they don't make seats for Buells. Is the CityX seat a real improvement over the old stock seat? | ||

Current seat choices are: Stock, which you have Low Skyline, I think that's the name of the SX seat Streetfighter, has gotten great reviews Corbin, which you have & hate Select, this is the new one from Buell. It looks to be thicker & cushier It has gel foam. You can see it on the Buell site under accessories. I have the low seat & love how it's deeply dished but it's too thin for my bumpy commute road. I need something thicker to help absorb the bumps so I ordered a select seat. There's a 30 day lead time so it'll be a while before I actually get it & can say how it is. | ||

Nope. I have a City and the seat sucked...too hard and when my wife was riding with me she would push my boys into the tank at every stoplight 'cause it was straight as a board. I traded for a stock 03 9S seat...still too hard but it eliminated the passenger problem. Buell makes a "Streetfighter" and a new "Select" seat. Check the website. Also, the Corbin takes a while to properly break it in. I don't know how long the previous owner had it on the bike but if it was for any extended period it's probably formed to his a55! I bet if you ride it for a month it will feel much better. If not, let me know if you want to sell it...I'll make you an offer. -Dan | ||

Daves, How long is the wait for the Select seat? Have you seen one? I'm curious if there is more room to scoot back on that one or the Streetfighter? I'm 6'3" and need to sit a little farther back than the Corbin lets me, but the stock seat is so slick I feel like it's had Armor-All on it or something. Is there a texture on either the Streetfighter or the Select seat to help prevent slipping or constantly having to grip with my legs? Thanks, Scott | ||

Sargent (no relation) will also do custom seats. There's a guy here in town that his family had his redone for Christmas. I've ridden on both the standard 9s seat and his redone Sargent and have to say it's a world of difference. I'm sure I can get some pics of it if anyone would be interested. | ||

I have heard the same thing about the corbin seats, they take about 1k miles to break in and form to you butt, but once they are broke in you cant beat em. i just put 500 miles on my stock 12s seat and I wanted to throw it right in the trash when I got home. I was hurting | ||

While they don't make complete seats for Buells, you can send your stock seat to Sargent and they will re-work it to your specifications; they do really good work. They are supposed to be very helpful in suggesting changes if you call them and tell them what you're looking for. Maybe they could even do something to improve the fit of the seat on your bike. I had the chance to sit on the Select seat at the Dealer show. It is pretty comfortable, and it has some texture in the rider area. Since it has a v-shaped indentation in the passenger area, I think that they are marketing it as a solo seat. It comes in black, but they also make a colored seat in blue, red, and orange. | ||

So, the Select is solo-only. Not good for me. My wife is getting hooked on riding with me, and I like her to come along. What is the deal with the V-notch? Never seen anything like it...maybe a place to put a bottle of Pepsi under the grab strap? Buell's version of a cupholder. Looks like the Streetfighter for me. Bill | ||

Xring, why don't you wait till those of us who have ordered the select seat can tell you if it's passenger friendly or not. Often looks can be deceiving. What looks uncomfortable (V on pillion area) may very well be purposely designed for passengers' buttock comfort. I think it'd be smarter to wait a few weeks than to jump head first for the Street Fighter than possibly, maybe, go "Oh man! I wish I waited." If it however doesn't do passengers good, well... you only lose a few weeks without a new seat. | ||

Is the Streetfighter that great for a passenger anyway? I ordered one because it allows the driver to sit further back than stock. Since its the same overall length as stock, doesn't it seem like your passenger will have less room? | ||

I wondered the same thing, Yahoo, but after reading through the archives until I'm cross-eyed, it seems the general opinion is the SF seat is also better for the passenger. Metalstorm: It will probably take me a couple of months to scrounge up the money anyway. (Ebay, here I come!) And, get the purchase approved through committee. One of my friends (?) suggested the v-notch is a cut-out meant to be friendly to the male anatomy, like some bicycle seats. Can't say it would help a woman. Thanks, Bill | ||

After LONG days in the saddle, I have two sore spots. I don't know enough anatomy to be very articulate about this, but they seem to be the bottom of my pelvis (this is a conversation I never thought I'd have with another guy!) on each side of my tailbone. From the looks of the Select seat, they might line up with the surface area of that V. Could be great for your passenger on a long trip. | ||

The Select looks like the ticket for my wife. Her biggest complaint was where the seat met the edge of the pillion, absolutely NO padding there. That new one will raise her up in the front and should provide enough padding in the abve mentiones areas. We'll wait for the reviews. On another note, I like the Blue. Paint the frame w/transparent blue, and striped over my airlid. Wonder why they don't offer a silver color. | ||

I have the CityX seat that I traded my stock 9S seat for and I love it. I'm higher up and it let's me slide side to side nicely in the twisties. I do cling with my legs during acceleration and deceleration, but I do that naturally anyway. Using your thighs as a balancing tool probably comes from years of kayaking. Or having been married to a big girl, I dunno. But I didn't like the comfort of the stock seat. The CityX seat is perfect for me. | ||

I have an xb12scg. i think the seat is 1 to 1-1/2 lower than a normal xbs seat. Does anyone know if the select seat works on the xb12scg or will one end with a seat 1 1/2" higher? | ||

I ordered the select seat, should take maybe a month? or so to receive. I'll give an brief review after install and break in. Daves ordered for me while he is on vacation, thanks Daves, good service. | ||

The potential trouble you may find with buying a used corbin seat, or a bike with a corbin someone else has been riding is the shape of it from the previous owner. The seat is made to conform to the shape of the rider (after the lengthly 1500 mile break in). I had this explained to me in detail when I spoke to a seat builder. They become more comfortable over time because they are made to eventually take the shape of your bottom. So if a used one feels uncomfortable to you, it may have felt pretty sweet to the previous owner. I've had one on an SX for 2200 miles now, it felt hard and stiff for quite a while, but has become pretty comfortable now. It is nothing like the stock seat. |
