How hard is it to change a tire? How difficult is it to remove the wheel to have it changed? Also, will a 200 fit on a 97 S-1 rear?? Thanks | ||

Removing a tyre from the cast wheel without a tyre changing machine, that means using tyre irons instead, will almost certainly mark the paint and possibly damage the alloy surface of the rim if you've not removed a tyre before. Likewise you'll do the same sort of damage if you have the PM alloys. Remove the wheel and have the tyre changed by machine but first buy the manual. Removing the wheel is as simple as undoing the nut and withdrawing the spindle. Pay attention to how the nuts washers and spacers locate and the location of the brake caliper. The manual shows this clearly and it also shows how to install the wheel. Make sure when you put the wheel back in you locate the disc brake pads over the disc brake rotor. DON'T at anytime whilst the wheel is removed operate the rear brake. Now check \ adjust as necessary the tension of the drive belt. You cannot fit a 200 section rear tyre safely to the stock rims on a 97 S1. Your options come down to a realistic 185 / 55 x 17 or 190 / 50 x 17 if you have the wider 5.5 inch PM alloys. I am not sure which wheels I have. I think PM's but still unsure. Whats the difference other than the width? I decided to just put on what size tire I take off (170/60 17). The whole reason for the change is that I noticed there are 2 plugs in the rear tire and I just want to be safe. I can't seem to operate through the archives as easily as I can the Quick board.Thanks!! | ||

The PM's are flat spoke polished alloy. The stock wheels are three round spoke alloys which I imagine will be painted grey. If you're running PM's I think you'll find that a 170/60 x 17 is too small but please take professional advice not just my word. Email admin about your browser issues. Rocket | ||

They are the smaller stock rims and are grey. 170/60 17 is what is on it now. I don't really have browser issues, its just this seems to be easier (quicker) if you will. Thank you!! |
