Which muffler gives the best performance from 2500rpm to 4000rpm for the xb12r. I have pretty much narrowed my choices to three as I still want to be able to jack up the bike like stock. D&D, Drummer, and Special O.P.S. |

I like the D+D but that's just me. The other two are great pipes too. |

The Drummer rips throughout the entire rpm range The D&D has a midrange hit that is brutal J |

Alstroker, you lose nothing with the Special O.P.S. It still uses the interactive exhaust valve to deliver a smooth tq/hp curve and no check engine light. Jacking is as intended from the factory. Sounds mean! Everything I sell has a 110% satisfaction guarantee. If, for ANY reason, you are not happy with any of my products I will pay for the shipping back to me and refund your $$$$ ASAP. No questions asked. www.specialops-online.com |

Alstroker, You also lose nothing with the Drummer but gain the whole rpm range..the Drummer delivers linear torque without the valve plus it weighs less....you can jack it up also as per factory jackpoints.... Kevin www.kdfab.com (Message edited by kds1 on July 24, 2005) |

You dont get a check engine light if you run the race ecm. Otherwise just leave the servo connected no lights. J |

Dave, I thought the D&D had a flat spot at about 3000rpm? That is something I don't want. What is your experience? I would like my bike to pull a lot harder between 3000-4000rpm. I am not really concerned with peak power. |

Al it will pull like a freight train with the D&D.I have one on and wouldn't trade it for anything at this moment. |

Rubdoggy, no trip to the dealer unless you were to install the race ecm, etc. Just a pipe doesn't need a TPS reset. Opening up your airbox also makes a big difference, especially when installing a better breathing pipe. |

Blake, Get Daves to send the Ti-Force and get a Force pipe, D&D, Jardine,Becin and whatever else you can find, I'll ship a TFI unit to whoever does the tests and I will cover the TFI and they can leave it on the bike when it's finished.... Kevin www.kdfab.com |

I just got my drummer today in trade for a D&D that I got in trade for a Force. The force had the dead spot <3200RPM and the D&D was smooth all the way up. Kevin, after you have finished with the conversion are the cans for a 9/12 exactly the same or are there differences? |

Two different engine displacements, can't use the same muffler....that's what's happened all the years in the past, that's why the powerband gets compromised because everyone makes something just fit another bike....I've been showing people that for a while now....make sure you tune the pc3 at 13.5 airfuel ratio, if you want to make max power on the dyno tune it to 14 to make the best numbers on paper.... Sounds like we have a pipe shootoff in the works! We need non-pipe affiliated donations for dyno time and a bike to test the stuff on. You have my solemn word that I will be absolutely 100% objective, thorough, and systematic in this effort. I'm a professional at this kind of stuff. Really. Should probably start another thread topic though. Hey Bubba. The original Drummer-boy. |

If we're all riding the street I can't see much point in a pipe shootout, it really gets down to what style you like (haven't you said that many times Blake?) That being said I would be interested in the results, but we already have a year and more of seat of the pants and semi-real and real dynos. A small problem is the Buell ECM delivering consistent fuel as required for each muffler even with a TFI. It would take 2 people a week at least to do it properly without having their results questioned. Even then the results would still be questioned. Who's got the time, i.e. what shop can afford the time? Remember the days when there were virtually zero options except the race muff? Then there was the Drummer...first one on the block if I recall correctly, we could thank Buckinfubba and Kevin for that. Then, Badwebbers wanted more mufflers, and more mufflers, like the grass was greener on the other side of the fence. Eventually other mufflers came out, painfully slowly, and there was great interest and testing going on. Now there's quite so many mufflers available that newer XB owners need to ask what muff to get. Enough serious stuff, I'm biased anyway, I've been running a Drummer for near 18 months. The characteristic wide power delivery of the Drummer suits the characteristics of the motor. But the new SS XB12 muff is pretty much more than I can resist. |

What we need is manufacturers to send their pipes, so they too will know they are not being misrepresented in this test as well, I bet alot of manufacturers don't know you on a personal level as fellow bwb's do Blake.... Kevin www.kdfab.com |
