Gentleman: See this photo below. Any idea what Buell model this fits? The holes in the air cleaner cover don't seem to match up to the X1 style covers I've seen. |

believe that's an early aftermarket piece -- looks like it'll bolt up to any post S2 tuber, though the holes on most (like the race filter) are shifted forward, rather than being evenly distributed across the face of the cover, as this one is -- the rear bolt might impact flow into the venturi a little, stress might . . . with the thickness (height) of the filter element, might not have any affect on the flow |

This thing was on Evil Bay. Sold for like $85 this afternoon. I'm not sure it would have fit perfectly on my X1 though without being a pain in the butt to put on. I figured the O2 sensor hole wouldn't be a big deal, but if the bolts didn't match up in might be a pain. |

"This thing was on Evil Bay..." I noticed that too. I'm starting to think the airbox on my M2 needs to go away and thought that looked good until it got up too high. Is that a Buell accessory or aftermarket, anyone know? It looked like the offcenter venturi would help with the knee room issue and the cover provides some rain protection. If you go from a stock M2 air box to something like that, do you usually have to re-jet the carb? I know its a good idea to check it. Jack |

The sensor in the airbox is a temperature sensor. The oxygen sensor is found in the rear header. |

This air filter setup appears to be one of the Frontier airfilters that are no longer made, I have one on my S-1 and they flow excellent using a 3" K&N element. Aaron at NRHS is now making one similar for all Buells. Ed |

Who/what is NRHS please? I couldn't find Frontier when they were mentioned in the auction description and NRHS is not bring up anything that computes. Thanks, Jack |

Jack, American Sport Bike and NRHS teamed up to make updated versions of the Buell race oval. Aaron at NRHS Said that the frontier air cleaner was the only one that supported big power out of the buells, due to the shape of the inlet conditions. So he did similar work on a milled backplate that fits the CF cover that we've got. Same K&N air filter as the Buell CF oval. For FI models: A17005 For Carbureted Models: A17000 Al |

Thanks for the help Al. That shape of that air filter looks like a mismatch for the American Sport Bike backplate but I guess it matches up and seals or they wouldn't be selling it. With that installed, is the banjo fitting for the breather behind the backplate and trapped between the backplate and the normal breather hole in the rocker box cover? And is that a K&N filter that can be had in 2" height with the same footprint and seals? I don't plan to upgrade beyond stock carburation so a lower profile 2" filter would seem like a good setup for me and is a little more out of the way. I don't see that offered with a 2" filter but I'm enough of a machinist that I can take an inch off the cover spacers or make new ones if I have to. Jack |

Yea, the 3" "oval" that everyone has used for years on a sporty is really a D shaped K&N. But it is pretty moldable and fits in the cover and seals fine. In fact, it works better with the new NRHS backplate than it did with the Buell Race backplate, because there is a milled ledge around the perimeter of the plate that helps hold the filter in shape. I think the 2" oval is a true oval. I haven't fit one but I'm pretty sure that it would fit if you cut down the standoffs. "With that installed, is the banjo fitting for the breather behind the backplate and trapped between the backplate and the normal breather hole in the" head? Yup Al |

I love my Forcewinder. It looks good and once smoothed (see the Knowledge Vault) it performs well. I have 78 hp at the rear wheel with a forcewinder and WileyCo exhaust. (everthing else is stock except a race ignition) It also gives me lots of knee clearance.

Al.I believe Aaron was supplying the A/C's with whatever length standoff you needed--2 or 3". |

FMJ, Aaron discontinued the 3" one for the S2's due to an interference that the extra length caused, along with the fact that on normally tuned S2's (your's doesn't count, mister!), the 3" one didn't bring any power to the table..the filter element wasn't the limiting factor at those flow rates. I don't think he's built the CF race oval version in 2", could be wrong. Al |

I assume the carburation will lean out a little with with the Buell race oval, my carb has a stock (#200) in it now. What sizes would be in the ballpark for fine tuning that air filter? I checked my plugs after I changed the slow speed jet to the #45 and they look very good, very light brown on new plugs and just a little soot on the body. If any of you compulsive upgraders has a race oval laying around you don't need, I'm interested. Feel from the PM me. Jack |

your main je is likely just fine, Jack -- your 45 in the pilot jet hole is also prolly good, and start with the lowspeed jet turned out about 2.5 turns from seated (you have drilled that evil lil plug outa the carb, ain'cha?) jetting is also affected by the exhaust (but you knew that) -- the 200/45/2.5 turns is a great starting point with a good aftermarket AC and can |

Yeah, I drilled the plug out and set it at 2.5 turns when I changed to the #45 about 2 weeks ago. I am so happy with the way it runs I have not even gotten around to fine tuning the mixture yet (have to make a screwdriver first too). I guess I was having too much fun, yesterday I started getting a new noise in my primary/transmission area. I posted to the KV on that one. Will pull the clutch tomorrow and see if I can figure it out. Jack |
