I apparently spend way too many miles going in a straight line. I keep replacing rear tires because I wear enough of a flat spot in the middle to make a sharp edge ... makes transitions to a lean less than confidence inspiring. Plenty of tread left even in the flat spot ... just don't like tires with sharp corners on them. I've got a belt sander and a bike stand. Anybody ever rerounded the profile of a tire before?

This sounds like the set-up to a bad redneck joke! "Hand me that belt sander, Bubba, then hold my beer and watch this!"

Seriously, that sounds like a risky proposition to me. If it were my tire, I think I'd pop for a new one.

Get it? Tire? Pop? Jeez, I amaze myself sometimes...

Blue -- don't do it -- localized heat buildup will permanantly alter the characteristics of the rubber, and, since you're not a computer, the buildup will be uneven to boot -- rendering the tire pretty much dangerous as heck for anything other than a rim protector

Thang -- you amaze us all, and regularly, too! Both a feature, and a benefit!

hi to scrub a tire in ,put up on rear paddock stand spin wheel and use a wire brush pushing out ward with brush, if you ask the guys in the tire garage they have a de-buffing solution hidden away. do not use in the wet unless you want to go break dancing, allow at least 200 + miles to break in , no hard acceleration out of corners. all the best.

let a teenager ride it for an evening. warn said teenager before he takes the bike that leaning the bike over very far is very dangerous and unpredictable, and that only a complete maniac would ever wear the sides of the reqr tire down.be sure you have some fuel on hand, the bike will return with an empty tank, and nicely worn rubber.
