I've always preferred the polished gearcase and primary covers of the '98's over the black on my '99. Will any polished Sportster/Buell cover do or are there some differences through the years? Will the black or the dull gray finished parts eventually polish to the same shine or is the base metal different? If so, how much work is involved? Thanks for any insight you have! |

The cam cover (and gasket) changed in 2000. I do not remember if it retrofits back to earlier bikes or if it is only 2000-up. I'm sure someone will be nice enough to refresh my memory on this. The primary covers are completely retrofitable up to 2002. If the covers are painted it is because they were not good enough to be chromed or polished, or they could even be rejects from the chroming or polishing processes. So it would take a little extra polishing to get painted covers shined up, but it is not impossible. 1313 |
