Well I got my new handlebars, and in the process of installing them, I over tightened one of the bolts that hold them down and stripped out the threads from the base that the bolt goes into (the bolt of course is perfectly fine). Is there any way to fix this or did I totally screw myself? |

Go to the hardware store and get a threaded insert. Typlically, drill hole to whatever size the directions say then thread in an insert, there are different types. They all work pretty much the same. Then there is Loctite Thread Restorer, I have not had to use it....yet, but everything Loctite makes works great, I have heard of people using it for stripped headbolts(Maybe just Urban legend). |

Swampy's right, get a threaded insert, just ask for a heli-coil if they give you a blank stare when you ask the pimply faced kid at the counter for a threaded insert. I personally would not use Locktite Thread restorer for a handlebar clamp. I don't trust it for safety related equipment. James |

Another option is if you didnt strip all the threads, get a longer bolt to catch the lower threads. Use a tap and you also may be able to salvage additional threads near the bottom of the hole.Use the longest bolt possible. If the bolt is the correct length the clamp can be tightened using only the other bolt if the damaged hole is tightened down first. If this option will work for you, its a far easier and better bet than to drill, tap and helicoil. |

longer bolt might do the trick, I only striped about 5 threads worth of the hole.. I'll load it up with lockite too, just for good measure... I'll update how it comes out.. |

OK got the longer bolt and blue locktite and hooked it all up, worked great! Problem is, now I dont have enough clearence to actually *turn* the motorcycle... I was thinking about getting longer bolts and inserting nuts between the frame hold down clips to act as risers... is that safe, or can anyone recommend some decent risers?? |

Not sure what you're talking about with 'frame hold down clips', but it doesnt sound safe. Let us know what bars you are running. I've run both drag bars and Laverda adjustable bars, both having significant clearance problems and I've researched or tried about every remedy thats safe. |

Nevermind.... it was my own stupidity... I didn't have the bar positioned right... I finally got it working good I probably shouldn't be allowed to touch a toolbox, but oh well Thanks for you guys' help ) |
