I have been recalled to active duty for no less than one year. I am looking at options for long term storage. The local Buell dealership American Eagle HD of Corinth has offered to keep it for me at no charge. The only problem with that is that it will not be started in my absence. I know my battery will be toast but moisture and tank corrosion are my main concerns. Would it be better to get my neighbor to take it for rides once a month or so? Thanks in advance for your help. Storage can be tough on a machine. Even when done correctly, minor problems with fluid leaks and electrical problems are common. I had two vehicles that sat for more than a year and both have had such problems. My M2 was last owned by a sailor on the Teddy Roosevelt. He was out to sea when 9/11 hit and if you are in the Navy you know that this was the first Carrier in position over Afghanistan. He was out to sea for a full year and the bike sat in his garage the entire time. In the two years that he had the bike, he only rode it 2000 miles. The end result has been little problems. I have been working through dry seals and minor electrical issues for the last year that I have owned the bike. The motor and tranny of the bike are in great shape. I have received complements on how good the motor sounds from other Buellers and a guy on a Ducati. Even though my M2 is in good shape its time sitting around shows. I just want you know my experience with storage and just for the record, thanks for your service. God Bless. |

You would not have to worry about tank corrosion as the tank is coated. The battery and tires are about all you would have to worry about. To bad you are not in California as there would be room in my garage and if you twisted my arm I could take it for a 3 mile run or so around the lake every week. |
