When I was washing my bike I found the rear axel adjustment bolts just rattling around in the swing arm. I thought they were threaded into the swing arm. If they're supposed to be I'm screwed. I checked the axle and it's aligned ok. I snugged up the bolts against the axle and they are tight. The service manual does'nt mention anything about the bolts being threaded. |

I don'think they are threaded into the frame. Also a drop of light lock-tite will prevent this. |

NOt on a S3 Jersey, 5.0, All you need to do is, Get the rear off the ground, loosein the rear axle. Take a dead blow hammer and tap the sliders tword the bolts till the bolts don't spin then re-tightin. It may take a few times but you will get. |

On the 99 and newer swingarms the bolts are just loose fit inside the swingarm. Nothing to worry about if they are just a bit loose. |

Since you bike is a 2002 I'm presuming that it has the Aluminum swingarm as factory installed. On some of the Aluminum swingarms the axle adjuster bolts threaded into the swingarm, while on others (later ones) there was just a clearance hole in the swingarm. Either style provides effective and efficient means to set and maintain axle location. If the adjusters were found loose as you stated, just to be sure, I would verify that the belt adjustment is still correct and that the rear wheel is not cocked in the swingarm. These checks may not be necessary, but I'd just want to be sure. 1313 |

Thanks guys. I measured the axle and it's square in the swing arm. The belt tension seems OK a little on the loose side. I took the adjusters out to see what was there and it's just the hole there. They are now snug against the sliders. |

5liter my x-1 did the same thing. I honestly ignored it. I think it was just in a bind when they tightened it, and it worked it's way loose. If your belt is within spec then I'd just tighten the bolt and nut and go with it. take out the slack. |
