Chris and Loni, if it's just us riding Sunday on the Sunset Thunder Club Brag Ride, how's about I just meet you at your place and we do a pre-SPLASH checkout run? Or meet at Woodland park? Ride to Cougar, lunch at the Burger Barn, down to Carston and back?? Since I'm gonna miss SPLASH anyway with my ministerial commitment. |

S1H Yes to both questions. The RC51 has been repaired and is itching to go. The S1 is currently in the shop having the stator replaced as my charging system hasn't been working for the past year. I think I'll ride the S1 for SPLASH, but may concider driving down with both bikes on a trailer, just in case. You shouldn't require a cherry picker to re & re that engine. When I pulled mine, all I did was make a secure engine stand from 2x4's cut into lenghts approx 12" long and then stack them up alternating them to make a tower a little taller than the height of the bottom of your engine. Put a couple of hooks in the ceiling joist above your work area. With the tail section removed, hang your bike from the ceiling with H-D ratchet style straps. Most H-D shops will sell them for just a couple bucks and they may even give them to you free as these straps come with every bike that they receive. Now that the weight has been remover from the bike. Remove the exhaust and rear shock. Slide the 2x4 engine stand under the engine and strap the engine to the stand with another strap. Lower you bike from the ceiling and you are ready to unfasten the frame and pull it off the engine assembly. Reverse to reassembly. Good luck. FunJimmy |

S1H I've never been known for doing things the easy way. Modern tools like cherry pickers and air compressors are to much like witch craft for me. LOL The trailering option was first discussed when I was concidering a track day at Portland on the Thursday as I'd need to switch back to street tires etc, and we could bring all the stuff required for track fun. That's all. How is the engine swap comming along? FunJimmy |

What do you need an air compressor for? If it is for an impact wrench I have an electric one you can borrow. |

Yeah it was for using the air one that anton has, but i guess electric would work. I have access to a cherry picker now also, just need to go and get a bench of some sort for putting the motors on. Funjimmy, the process has not started yet, I didnt have what I needed so I put it off till tuesday when Anton doesnt work and he can spend all day out here. |

Jimmy, Is it your stator for sure? If so, I seem to recall a very good friend giving me one when I needed one.....oh yeah, that was you! I will have to return the favor. Talk to me bro. Harv P.S. The garage isn't finished yet but I did clean up the bike and go for a little scoot. Let me know if you hear Mt. Baker calling........or the Beer Shrine for that matter. Today the top end of the motor came off, checked everything out, replaced rings, and all gaskets, cross hatched it, and re assembled it. After this I cleaned the entire bike with a parts brush the size of a toothbrush. SIDE NOTE, when using engine de-greaser, don't leave in on aluminum to long. So, one of my next project is going to be to have the frame powder coated black. I wanted to do it now, but time restraints and all. Anyways, things I found out that were bad with the bike as well and possibly responsible for the case issue. The bike is missing the swing arm tensioner bolt that goes in the center of the swingarm mount. WOW, Suspect that when the took it out for the 10K service, "they" never put it back in??? SO the bike may have gone the last 28K with out it. OUCH. This could be why there is so much damage on the swing arm mount from the chain conversion, maybe it was even pulling back on the pully? causing the case to crack? I know, I know, I need to post the picks, but I left the camera in the garage and don't want to go get it. |

Chris, Loni and I headed out Sunday morning to do a counter-clockwise pre-ride for SPLASH. The idea was to leave Woodland, find a back route to the Gorge without having to take I-5 or go thru Vancouver. The route we mapped turned to gravel road, so we turned back and never did find a good way thru. |

S1H Wow is right! If you didn't have that tention bolt installed and torqued I could see a case for loose bearings and premature bearing failure, but the swingarm mount secures the bearing spacers and shouldn't allow it to loosen further. Now get back to work and lets read posts about how great it runs. Cheers FunJimmy |

Going to try to get the motor in on Friday (tomorrow) had some other stuff come up that I had to work on. I have to wait for the tensioner and a new ignition sensor, mine was all dis-colored and was getting really hot. So those things will not be here for another 7 days..Boo I am thinking about putting a penski on the bike, any thoughts? I think my shock needs to be rebuilt, and I can get a penski for 500. I figured by the time I buy the stuff to rebuild the shock and buy the tools to do it with, I may as well just get a new shock. Ok, I bought a bunch of crap off ebay for this years Splash items are: GMRS X1 Chatterbox (anyone else have one so I don't have to just talk to Tracie...hehe, just kidding hunny)Also got all the connectors for hooking up music and my cell phone. Bullet Helmet Camera (I also got a headband style mount for the camera, So I can be really annoying) Sirius Satelite Radio ( I can't be without my OCTANE,(it is a station on sirius)) Rio Cd/MP3 |

S1H Penski shocks are known to be great shocks. $500 sounds like a great deal. 7 days for parts though is a real bummer. FunJimmy |

Hey people a long over due update is coming. Roadrash "Brandon" droped by the other day. He sure looked good walking up our path to the deck without the turtle shell on! We went into town and tried on some helmets. and I threw a leg over a few bikes. Yeah it must of been some sight too see. Brandon seems to be in good spirits even though they may have too put larger bolts in to hold him together.Damnit Jim! Went over to Dave-n-Ronda's the other day and he let me take the Fatboy out for a short ride, boy that felt good! See you guys and Gals at the park on friday or thurs at the house of G |

S1Blackie, glad to see you up and posting, man! I think we need to order some teeshirts, with the Triumph--like logo "Trust Me" with Bob's photo on the front and "In Bob We Trust--WWBD" on the back. Somebody take sizes and orders at Splash and we can get them for Border Raid. I can't make the Splash due to my eldest daughter's wedding that weekend. I will be performing the service, since I am fully ordained by the Church of Spiritual Humanism via the internet. After years of watching movies, I finally get to say, "Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here...." |
