Has anyone seen or know of a Buell M2 with spoke wheels? I thought about putting some 17x5.5 back and 17x3.5 front on mine. How do you think it might look? | ||

I am going to use a M2 front end for a custom cafe bike project and want a 3.50" x 17", 36 spoke wheel that will mate up with the stock 340 mm rotor. Have you found a suitable hub yet? Think an adapter will have to be made to use the Buell rotor? I'd like to use a Talon hub with Excel rim but do not know what hub would work. Any knowledge? Thanks, Glenn Phoenix | ||

There's a pic in the archives somewhere of if I remember correctly an M2 or S1 with spoked wheels. I recall the Buell in question having suspension mods too which made it stand tall like a crosser. It's a long time ago. Maybe search back to 99 or 2000. Rocket | ||

I think it will look cool. Check with Performance Machine about the hubs if sportster hubs won't work. They made the aluminum PM wheels for Buells they should know the specs. | ||

I gotta tell you that I thought spoke wheels would look silly. So I downloaded a pic of a spoke wheel and pasted it onto a pic of my X1. It looked pretty good! It was 72K and too big to attach here so I edited it to make it smaller and it ended up 300k. So much for technology. Anyway, suffice it to say I tried to make my point and it ended up selling me on spoke wheels...Den | ||

I want to use spokes specifically for aesthetics, not performance. Most current and past spoke wheels must use tubes which slightly compromise the handling of late model rubber. Also, spoke wheels need to be retensioned to maintain proper strength and alignment. A few new-style rims have spoke mount/strengthening flanges set perpendicular in the middle of the rim with 90 degree spokes ends, so tires can be used tubeless. The spokes do not penetrate the actual rim. Dymag makes carbon fiber rims like this that are gorgeous. They quoted me a price of @ $1,500 just for the M2 front! Imagine that with blacked-out fork sliders, triples clamps, carbon fiber fender and fly screen. Ow well, will continue the spoke wheel hub hunt. The good thing about Buell front ends is they are single disc. Many manufacturers out there with super motard hub/rim combos that may work. Just need to find that information vault person. | ||

Well i'm glad to see a few others share my thoughts on this, as it would look pretty cool. I know the new Ducati 1000 Sport Classic has the spokes, and I love how it looks. If I get this done I will post pics and who did the R&D on them. | ||

I'm not sure that finding a spoked wheel in the correct size is going to be a problem...I can see a problem getting the rotor and caliper to fit. I fit a disc brake(and the entire late model front end) to my old sportster...'all' it needed was the center hub from a spoked wheel with disc brakes to lace up with the original spoked rim...Thanks to the skill and patience of Bob Korn, it worked. I could see you mixing and matching several different components to reach the goal...it should look pretty neat and unique. Good luck. | ||

has anyone checked out BMW, some dual sports have tubeless spoke wheels with spoke holes through the rim flanges,just a thought,probably expensive,like most things from Bikes Made Weird. Sam | ||

Crombie,I ended up writing the guys at ECW and they said that they will have some out in 3-4 months, I even asked them about using the rim brake and they were working on that too, may want to ring them up in order to get them before everyone else!! I think it would look kick ••• but money is tight so no go for me. | ||
