Any Badwebbers in Oregon want to be a test mule for a new cruise control design?

Ok, the whole story: I've been riding the highways a lot lately and my wrists are killin' me. I want cruise control, but all the throttle-lock style devices scare me because they don't disengage in a panic stop. I was all set to buy a Throttlemeister, but found the BrakeAway first. It's a very cool design, works like a throttle lock until you hit the brake lever, then it clicks off. I've been looking, and this is the only gadget I could find that's panic-safe.

I've talked to Brian (chief techie?) a couple of times and sent him pics, but the trouble is, nobody's ever tested it with our adjustable brake lever or 3/4 inch bars. We also may need a longer brake lever pivot pin. He is willing to validate the design on an XB, so I said I'd ask around.

Here's a company with a great product, willing to work for us. Then maybe Dave or Al could source it. I know I'd buy one. Anyone out there in Oregon willing to help?

Hey, wow, great. Here's s'more info:
The place is in Tigard, which is just south of Portland. If you want to help, call up Brian at 503-624-0981. He's all about safety and won't put Buell on the list until he's had a chance to test it out.

He's working on a new version that basically uses a smaller delrin split-ring spacer and may accomodate our smaller grips. Mine are Traction style and would have to be trimmed, but the device covers that mess with shiny billet. He's also concerned that the lever is stable and doesn't have a sharp edge on the bottom, which would wear the disengage device. The whole thing is stabilized by a little arm that attaches to the brake pivot pin, and on mine there aren't any threads beyond the nut. With Harleys he supplies a longer pin, I think.

Anyway, that's all I know. I don't know what's in it for ya, 'cuz I don't work for Brian but maybe he'll hook you up somehow. Keep us posted, my minions, and maybe tell him how to get in touch with our exalted sponsors. Gooo team Badweb!

Couldn't wait for someone else to test it, so I just winged it, and ITWORKS ITWORKS! I just took a shakedown cruise and I love this thing.

Ok, here's how to make it work on a Buell XB:
1. Trim the flange back by .50 in with a razor, and file off the rib.
trim the flange file the rib

2. Install the collar, using 1.00" I.D. delrin splitring. This is the trick- you gotta ask for this special, and I had to cut it into two pieces to get it on.
the delrin ring install collar

3. Follow the rest of the instructions exactly, except that you will need to use loctite on the brake pivot pin underside retaining nut.
pre-install installed

Took me an hour, works beautifully, exactly as advertised. In fact, it feels very strange at first to be able to shake the right hand out without having to clutch! Don't it look purdy?

As far as anyone knows, I'm the first to adapt this to a Buell, and it takes a special request part (the 1 inch I.D. double-splitring). So what we need to do is get one of our esteemed sponsors to request that Brakeaway put together a regular kit with instructions, and then the 'baggers among us can ride a little safer. -NadZ

Disclaimer (Blake, etc) - I'm not selling this and got no special deals or kickbacks. I just really like this item, and don't want the next Badwebber to have to cob-job it like I did.

My parents just bought those and love them, the breakaway. That's interesting and tempting to get now. Didn't think of that.
